Starting to think about building my 1960-66 Jimmy project into a Blazer looking rig. Ok for those that dont know Jimmy is also a nickname for any old GMC truck... I dont know the history on that but back to my idea.

1963 GMC cab I have laying around (wrap around windshields are cool in my book /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) or a shortened Suburban body
1962 GMC 4000 front clip (factory fender flares for 20" tires and it will bolt onto a pickup)
39-42" tires
then make the cab topless and graft the lower section of a 60-66 suburban to the back of the cab or possibly the bed sides. I would have a wood floor behind the drivers seat like the suburbans used in that era.
1965 Chevy factory 4x4 frame (same section modules as a 1 ton of the same year) shortened to 100-110" wheelbase (1/2 ton short box is 115" and 3/4 ton longbox is 127").

I am going to play around with the image software and come up with a pic...

Well, it sounds intresting. Hope you have a lot of spare time! I would like to see some photo-chop ideas.

Re: 1966 Jimmy project idea

That sounds sweet ,often though about doing that but the trucks just arent available around here.

Re: 1966 Jimmy project idea

You come up with some of the best ideas here!
I bet if I had the space you do I'd be coming up with em too.
I say do it! I've always wanted to put a '67-68 frontend on the Blazer just to be diffrent. I want pictures!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

Re: 1966 Jimmy project idea

What about an old delivery truck like the monster truck "Grave Digger" ??? I've always like those bodys. Be real intresting with a removable top. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: 1966 Jimmy project idea

Spare time? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif Well I just collect parts for these projects but have not started any of my own yet /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Currently I am converting a 1966 GMC from 2wd to 4x4 for a guy in Mississippi. After that is done and I sell my 65 Dodge Dart and 79 Chevy K10 I will be starting on MY truck.

I havent decided if I should do the trail rig or the COE hauler first... Hmmm... 4x4 COE /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Just tell me What you are looking for and I will probably know where to find it in a farmers field! Shipping would be the biggest hurdle.

I used to rent 5 acres in Central Oregon and had alot of storage space... Now I live in a mobile home park to save money for a while. But I have a friend with acreage and landlords that have not been down to see the place in 20 years I asked him if I could store a truck when I moved over the summer...
Storage Photo
He didnt say how high I could go /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I really like the idea of using the 62 GMC 4000 front clip, for those factory fender flares you were talking about. That would look totally /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Cool pic!!!! But isn't the drivetrain reversed? Looks like the t-case is setting back WAY to far towards the rear. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The pic I used is a 62 Suburban with a divorced T-case. In reality it would need a married tcase to keep the drive shafts decent...

I think it would need a roll cage that could be tied into the header to stiffen it back up. Similar to what was done to the Ramcharger in Petersons 4wor mag when they removed the structural top.
