I have gotten tired of dealing with electrical problems in this truck. Every time I try to drive it something new is wrong. Since it’s not at my house, that becomes a huge problem. I finally decided to take the plunge and rewire it. @folkenheath hooked me up with the American Autowire update kit. I am so glad I opted for a complete harness, the more I pull out the worse the old one looks. It’s a mostly stock truck, but the wiring has been butchered. I’ve fixed several things, but I am shocked (lol) at what I found as I dug deeper. This gem is a typical example. Wires cut and just tucked behind things, or wires that pull out of terminal lugs.

I’ve got the under-hood and cab wiring out and the new dash harness laid in. It’s still loose because I still have to enlarge the firewall pass through. I decided to hold off on the gauges until I replace the printed circuit.

Starting to look better.

So far it’s been straightforward, but time consuming. AAW does a great job with packaging and labeling. I would recommend them 100%.

One last thing that may help someone if they want to replace the stock gauges, or add them if your truck came with idiot lights. SunPro gauges fit behind the dash in the stock location with just a little work. I didn’t even realize that two of mine had been replaced until I removed the dash.

I’ll update more as I make progress.
