hey guys, couple questions.
The orientation of the clutch fork and the throwout bearing, there's like a divot on one side of the bearing. Which way is that supposed to face?

My manual doesn't cover this 1st gen style clutch fork

Also, is it possible to use the newer style clutch fork on my 70? I'm not super fond of the idea that there's nothing to help keep the bearing in place

Bearing can only fit in one way, facing the pressure plate..
I think that flat spot is so the bearing wont try spinning on the fork, ones I installed in the past didn't have that, they were just round..

There is no bearing to fork retainer,as long as the fork stays clipped to the bell housing ball stud ,the bearing cant really go anywhere, the fork could come off,but the bearing is riding on the collar over the input shaft,it cant go anywhere..

Man, this just dont seem right. Its just loosey goosey on the end of the clutch fork.
Even with the trans shaft thru it it feels like it will just flop around, even if its just a little bit that doesn't seem right.

Damnit I wish I was there when this transmission was pulled. i've done clutches on 79 and up. This 70 has been a fun time (sarcasm)

Sometimes I wish I had a buddy helping me out, even just to talk it thru. cause just typing this up I slid the bearing on the trans shaft and there isnt any wiggle room ‍♂️

So I'm over thinking it once again

Just to help ease the concern, i use that clutch fork on mine. No problems with it.
