Hello,
My name is Michael Palmer and I recently purchased a 1971 Jimmy. I have always wanted one of these trucks but I just couldn't find the resources until now. I'm 48, married, 2 kids, and I live in Lakewood CA, I'm a film/video professional for nearly 30 years. I love motorsports and I created a TV series for FOX Sports "Speed Channel" entitled "Infield Hotpass" that was a fan's perspective of a typical NASCAR race weekend with behind the scenes segment with the drivers. I currently work on an Animal Planet series that I am the Director of Photography on entitled "Faithful Friends". I also shoot and edit many projects each year that include local/regional TV commercials, and web promos. I'm also very active on High Definition forums helping others from my experiences.

My 1971 Jimmy is going to need some work and I believe this forum is the best place to find individuals who are passionately invested into there trucks and are willing to help others (like me) find solutions. I'm not sure I could ever tare down my truck as some here have, but I am going to enjoy wrenching on this truck. Thanks for reading, here is the only pictures I currently have of my truck.

Michael

Welcome! Looks to be a pretty clean rig- what are the plans for it? Plenty of info on the site (I'm still digging!).

Welcome aboard! :waytogo:

Fortunately, if it's been a SoCal truck it's whole life, the rust won't be anywhere near as bad as some of what you've probably seen.

Looks like you already did the first most important thing....take the top off and drive it. The experience is hard to beat, and that's how the love affairs takes hold.

Odds are that you've got a little rust in the front footwells and cab supports like they all do, but you can schedule to deal with that when you feel like it. Cosmetically, the truck looks really good from the outside.... my guess is that you'd do well to focus on the basic maintenance items. Replace the old, dried out 35-year old spring bushings, body mounts etc. Maybe replace balljoints and tierod ends up front to tighten up the steering if it's feeling loose....

You don't seem like someone who's going to want to go all hard-core on it for offroading, so what sort of plans do you have? Tasteful, resto-mod?

:usaflag:

Welcome man...The trucks looks great, i really get jealous seeing peoples trucks in such nice shape. Have fun with it, and this is for sure the place to be for help.

Nice score man. This website is insane with all the knowledge for any kind of build you could imagine, just keep reading.:D

Hello Michael,

"Infield Hot Pass" was a cool show! Nice work.

You have a damm nice Jimmy there. It appears to me that the only work you have to do is pumpin' gas into it and takin' a shower after hours of hittin' the trails! That is a beautiful truck!

Welcome to the board, great looking K5 and your line of work sounds like it would be really enjoyable. Keep us posted on our progress - we all really enjoy watching other peoples builds and sharing advice and knowledge.

Thanks for all the support and well wishing. I plan to replace all of the warn out parts and restore the truck to an original state, I will keep the small lift it has and perhaps those rally wheels. My daughter loves it and wants to make it her first vehicle, she love the top off and paint it black or red. I need to replace the front wheel bearing soon, the steering box and the brake booster/master cylinder system to get this mast to stopped. It does have some rust and here are some newer pictures I finally have taken. I have lots to do and I will take my time fixing it up.

Well I uploaded 5 new pictures but I don't see them.
