Hello,

I just inherited a 1971 K5 Blazer that was owned and operated in Denver, Colorado (5280ft). Now it is in Maricopa, AZ. (1200ft). Do you think I need to adjust the Carb? It has been Dieseling?? Any suggestions? Thank you.
 
carb will need to be adjusted...and dieseling could be from a few things. does it ALWAYS diesel when you kill the key? if its only doing it hot, it could have some carbon build up in there that stays hot enough to keep igniting the fuel for a few extra rotation.
 
If it's been tuned to operate at high-altitude (almost no air), odds are that it was "leaned out" to keep the A/F mixture correct.

If my thinking is correct, you now have a lot more oxygen but the fuel is still being cut way back....so you'd be running excessively "lean"??

Either way, I'd suggest getting the A/F ratio measured and get the carb re-jetted for where you live now. If it IS running lean, it's going to do a lot of damage in a short amount of time (detonation, pinging, etc)

tune up time, if it is still points change them, you also will probably want to advance your timing about 2 degrees for the elevation. I think advance is right. I always did what the manual said then add one degree for every 2 thousand feet elevation.

check plugs, wire, dizzy cap, then after that do the fuel air mixture. elevation makes horsepower. I used to love taking my vehicles up to dad's place in North Dakota, made them run great.
 
Thanks for the Info. It seems to only do it after it has heated up. I live in the Phoenix area and am looking to have a roll bar/cage made for the truck. Anybody have anybody in the area or ideas. Thanks. Trying to post some Pics. Thanks.
 
Just FYI, my 72 was jetted for sea-level, but was a CO native K5.

Also make sure your fuel filters are clean. :D
