1971 K5: Hardtop/Hatch Help

No a second gen hard top will not fit. The biggest difference is how it connects to the windshield header. Can you post up a pic, and we could tell you (hopefully)?

I did confirm it's a 1st generation top, he had a '72. He said the difference was "the '73-'75 front corners roll down, while the 1st gen are flat". I asked for a few more pics and noticed a bit of sag (picture attached). Is this something I could fix?

Double walls are notorious for the sag.

I've seen pictures and a diagram of the single wall construction and wood was used internally for the top to keep it from sagging. I don't know how they were made internally on the double walls, and I've never done fiberglass work on mine (or anything for that matter) so I'll have to let another chime in on that.

Copy, thanks.

Do you have a factory assembly manual? I don't, but I know they are kind of the bible for 1st gens, but the pages are in a pretty random order. You may want to pick one up from ebay.

Anyway, here is the thread I was referring to before:

Post 4 and 12 have a lot of good info in them. The pictures look like the assembly manual.

Link to ebay for assembly manual on paper (truck includes blazer specs): https://goo.gl/NKfd98
You could find one on CD as well.

Hopefully this info helps.

I do have a manual, it came with the Blazer and looked through that thread. I didn't see anyone pull off the sag repair unfortunately.

No inexpensive way to fix it other than giant amounts of bondo or cutting out the sagged pry and re-glassing it.

Copy, on that. Really leaning towards waiting, but I'll ask around see if I tangentially know someone that's good with 'glass. I'm down with cut out and sanding, but am clueless with building it back. I was planning sanding and painting it, the dent might bug me too much.

I looked around and I think I can see the difference in 1st Gen top and 2nd Gen full top. First pic is of a 1st gen hardtop, see how the front corners are pretty flat? I looked up a single-wall 1st gen top as well to make sure the front corners are the same (2nd pic). The post showed the inside (3rd pic) and I see the dome light, I think I saw a thread on here saying the dome light is only in single wall.

Then I have 3 pics of a 2nd gen full top. The front corners "roll down" to meet the body.

Does that seem correct? I'm looking for a way to easily see a difference.

Very easy to tell as 1st gen has hatch (2 areas where hatch was bolted if hatch missing) and 2nd gen does not.

You are right on the dome light too. Only available in single wall. But honestly, if you wanted one, a battery powered light would be stupid simple to install.

Even easier!

Much easier indeed. Once I get a top on, I'll have to see where the dark spots are.

I wonder if some "great stuff" foam would expand enough to fix the saggy area ?...

I have seen some of that stuff buckle sheet rock walls in houses before--now they have a few different foams, some expand a lot more forcefully than others do..
If it would work,it'd be pretty easy--just drill a hole, squirt some in,and plug the hole quick!..

My '72 K5 had a saggy hardtop, the PO sanded off all the orange peel look off the fiberglass and painted it black, and I think the sun heated it up enough to make it sag..he also cut a sunroof into it which leaked like a sieve, and the top used to "wave" up and down going down the highway noticeably when you hit bumps (or had a tire that shook from being unbalanced)..1972 K5 Blazer 4x4 002.jpg
