Would a dana 44 from a 72' Jimmy fit into my 1989 k20. The jimmy axle has manual hubs and my k20 axle does not. Would the jimmy axle be an easy swap? The axle in my k20 is locked up and i can get the whole Jimmy for $200, and it has a good high compression sb350 and a good np 205.

So would this be an eay swap or are they different sizes or something?

The manual hubs from the one should fit the other, unless it's an external hub D44. If the wheel mounting surfaces look at all alike, the hubs will cross-install. So should the outers, which is good 'cuz your K20 is 8-lug, prolly, and the Jimmy would be six.

I don't know about front spring spacing on pre-73 rigs, but it might drop in ... if it has the same gear ratio as your K20's rear, you'd be golden. You'd then want to swap outers from your existing axle, which is likely a 10-bolt, onto the D44 inners and call it good.

The 72 probably has drum brakes. I would swap the rotors/brakes etc. from your 89 onto the 72 housing and bolt it in.

:eek1: I thought front drums were 69-70 ... but I could easily be wrong.

I don't know that discs are a bolt-on for the drum-style knuckles though, the way they are for the disc-style.
