1972 K5 "Boise" Blazer Build (advice appreciated) mostly DIY.

We are mocking up our drive train. Our transmission combo is about 4 1/4 inches longer so we are wondering if we can move our engine up a bit? We will have electric fan cooling with more space. Has anyone done this?

The transmission support bars worked great, thanks to Wes for that idea.

By up I mean slide the mounts forward in the chassis, not higher. The floor won't be an issue.

Going to shorten your front driveshaft then too ?
What about you steering arm is it going to hit the oil pan ?
What about the front crossmember is the harmonic balancer going to hit that ?
What about front axle clearance ?

IMO I would put it where is was from the factory and just get a shorter rear driveshaft.

All new driveshafts. Trying to take some angle off of our rear shaft. We mocked it up 2 inches forward and all that seems to fit.

I like volunteering information from @ashman because he's done it all to his blazer. Pretty sure he moved his engine forward for a similar setup and it worked out well for him, keeping the driveshafts the same length, and the angle he liked.

2" forward should not be an issue. My only concern would have been with the fan, but with electric fans, again, no issue.

Correct. I don't remember off hand how far forward I went, but as I recall, I basically set the tailshaft of the transmission in the exact same place as before, then built forward from there.

Thanks for the advice. We split the extra length with about 2 forward and 2 back. I will go for the double cardan driveshaft to make up for the extra angle.

We decided to paint the bottom and insides first and then paint the outside once the Blazer is mostly complete. We mounted up the body to the frame and took it back from the paint shop to our facility. We have piles of parts that will going in.

We are starting to assemble the dash with wiring and pedals. Working on the wipers and everything. We went with the Vintage Air AC system. We have the tilt steering column and a Griffin Radiator. Drive shafts are here but I am waiting on some parts to install them.

I'm still doing quite a bit of restoration work. I had to sandblast and paint all of the pedal items and other things. It's taking a bit to get into an area to figure out what I need and then order all of the little parts to make it right. Lots of things require modification due to the customization of a few things like the engine placement. The wiring has been something to figure out that my dad put a lot of time into. We've got the new dash coming along with a grip of new wiper and AC parts so we can get that all finished. I'm hoping to get this moved along fairly quickly to get it painted this summer.

Lots of wiring going in with the steering column and pedals. Also wipers and wash system going in. Brakes are done. Radiator is being fitted. My dad is a semi retired business owner so he is putting a lot of time into it lately.

Steady progress being made. Most of the wiring and dash + gauges are installed. We used an extra Camaro steering wheel we had. Vintage Air AC unit is going in. The fuel tank and whole system are finished. Wipers and washers are finished. Radiator is installed and connected.

I will begin restoring the seats soon and it goes in for an exhaust system next week.

What hitch is that? I need a hitch and that thing looks nice and tucked in there.

It's something we made. Just a cross bar of hitch material from the steel shop and the receiver welded to it is from the tractor supply store. It hides behind the license plate. It would need a significant drop hitch to be useful but at least we have something.
