I recently purchased a 1972 K5 and want to install a vortec 350 out of a 00 chevy 1 ton. Does anyone modify or sell a new wiring harness that will work on the 72? Also any input on tranny and transfer case combos??

Thanks...

Welcome to the CK5 family, post up some pics your ride we love-pics here?:D
Did you receive a tranny/t case with the purchase?

I plan on eventually going 4l60 to NP205 which requires an adapter between the trans and case. But since my jimmy already has the 205, it eliminates the need to look for a passenger side drop case.

What are your plans for the vehicle? DD, street queen, offload? Answering this question can help narrow the selection process a bit. :waytogo:

The 00 model was a 2wd. Im looking for a trans and transfer case at the moment. I didnt know what would fit without modification. I was also wondering if I could get someone to rebuild the harness from the 00 model to fit in the 72?

This Blazer will be my sons first vehicle. It mainly be used on the street but may see some trails in Colorado!

TH350 to an NP205 was one of the available options. Relatively cheap and easy to find.

Though I am not sure if the engine ECM needs to see a speedo signal or not, if so this may be a bit of hurdle. There are many guys on here that will be able to better answer that particular thing. I am sure they will chime in.

The biggest thing is keeping with the passenger side output t-case. Beyond that most any GM trans can be adapted to most any NEw Process t-case.

Factory options would keep it the simplest though.
TH350-NP205
SM465-NP205
SM465-Dana 20
There was also a three speed offered not sure what it was though. Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe the above we're the factory options an with a little work that the TH400 trans and the NP203 could also be made to work though the 203 is less attractive to the masses.

I have been researching the LS conversion process as well. I like the new plus old in a big way. Im thinking LS2 6.0 with the 4l60 or 80 bolted to the 205 case. Lomax offers a 205 that has all the mounting options on the case for any application without an adapter from Advance or another vendor. I could be wrong but I read this in another post or forum. Bit pricey but its brand new and stronger. You can use the stock harness and have it modified or several places sell harnesses. I will be doing this in the future but right now the 350 does the job. LS2's are going for 1500with everything near me on CL. Very tempting.

BTW me thinks that Chevrolet whent to the 6.0 in '99. Maybe 1 tons are different than 3/4 though.

Bronc have you swapped in a 4L60E or 80? The 4L60E is basically a 700r but electronically controlled right?

Havent done the 4l60e or 80 swap... The wiring for them is fairly easy... All my swaps have been used with manual trannys...

Yes the 4l60e is close to a 700r4.. There are a few differences IIRC..Never got into auto trannys... I throw them in the junk pile.. then swp in a nv4500..
