I acquired one of the mentioned 50cc bikes this weekend (it was sitting by the curb across the street from a buddy of mines house and when I inquired about it the guy at the house said it was in the garage when he moved in. I asked if I could have it and he said yes, so I got it for free!!). I did a little bit of research last night on the web and parts are still available for it but does anybody here know anything about them? Common problems, tuning, etc.

Thanks

I had a 125 Elsinore. It ran like a typical Honda. Dependable. Other than spark plugs and regulat maint I never did anything to it. I upgraded the rear shocks but that was about it.

I want to pull the head and see if there is anything visibly bad in the head and top of the piston...anything else that I should look at before attempting to fire it off?

They have a tendency to wear the cylinder a bit and pop the rings out. They also should be drilled for the piston skirts to get better oil flow. A little searching on the web should find you some Elsinore enthusiast sites that can give you a ton of information. I have a 66 305 Superhawk, that I picked up for free, and it has been sitting until I can afford to rebuild the engine.
