Hello,

This forum is great! I bought a 1973 GMC Jimmy at an auction for a great price and it wont start, it sat for a number of years before I bought it and I dont know the history on it. I replaced the cap, rotor, sparkplugs and sparkplug wires...the coil is in good shape and the sparkplugs get spark but everytime I try and turn it over it backfires throught the carb.

I pulled the distributor out and turned it 180 degrees but still have the same problem, I pulled the distributor from my running 74 Blazer and installed it in the Jimmy but still no start...I have rearranged the wires going into the cap numerous times in the case I goofed up the firing order but still it backfires through the carb and wont start. :frown1:

Any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks for any advice!

sounds to me like it may have had a stuck valve from sitting so long.. i'd do a compression test... then set TDC and reload the dizzy...
