1973 K5 - My any purpose... any road build. (NEW PICS UPDATE 6-6-13 POST#92)

No.

All the good stuff is freakin 8 lug. I'm seriously considering driving to denton to get that D44 stuff and do these H1's.

Make your wheel size choice by the tire choice you will run. When I bought new tires I didn't have many choices because of the wheels I had(16.5).
I think there are more 17" then any other.

Absolutely.

I want to run BFG AT's. I can go 315/75-16 or I can go 35/12.5-16.5.

I want the later size. They are cheaper but I would need new wheels. not a huge issue since I was planning on buying a new set any way (2 for the trailer and 2 spares).

I was just going to get the same ones I have and run the metric tires but these wheels are discontinued.

Not a huge ordeal I just need to decide which route I want to go.

But I will say that 78SWB's truck is really makin me want those freakin H1's :eek1:

Must resist...

Go pick up a 14 bolt FF on cl for $150 with matching gears that your front axle now has, then swap out your 6 lug hubs for 8 lug hubs. Sell your old stuff and come out even. Done.

I must be the only person in the whole free world that really doest want a 14BFF, at least not right now and maybe never on this truck.

Converting it to 8 lug is an option, but it's just a tad out of reach for me at the moment which unfortunately puts the H1's out of reach too.

I am also a little concerned about the long term availability of tires in various sizes for 16.5 in wheels.

Still need to noodle on this one.

I must've literally tripped over a dozen 14 bolt FF's trying to find my 14 bolt SF in 3.73! I wanted to go full float on my 73 k10, but I didn't have the money to change everything to 8 lug. I just replaced my grenaded 12 bolt sitting on 33's. Agree with what you are saying on the FF though. They are everywhere here in Texas.

Went by the shop week before last and took a look at the new trans, looks spiffy:

So went out of town then got back in town this week. Parts are rolling in, wheels etc. Ordered tires yesterday should be in on Monday, 35" BFG ATs.

Pictures of goodies:

Progress of wheels:

Should end up something like this:

WOOT!

I'm not sure what I'm most excited about lol, wish the truck was in the driveway so I could get to work :D

sorry for crappy cell pics

Yep. Got some more stuff coming too, interior and stereo (got no tunes right now).
