1973 Start Issues

I'd definitely do the wiring while I had everything else out of the way. It's not fun in any case, but it's easier with the cluster and column removed.

I don't know what it is with wiring, it's not hard to do right, but for some reason making things ten times worse doing it wrong is the norm for previous owners.
And the previous owner is an electrician. Talk about irony.

Just in case you don’t know this little trick, but next time you go to disassemble something take some pics so you know how it goes back together (like wiring :rotfl:). I do it every time I work on drum brakes even though I know how it goes together, but never hurts.

I'd expand on my previous statement about replacing wiring when the other stuff is out. After you get the wiring generally in the right places, hook everything up and test that it works properly before buttoning everything back up.

I think a lot of times people run a wire to get something to work, they get so excited when it works they say piss on it and just leave that wire, same thing next time and it just builds. I’ve pulled miles of wire out of vehicles that previous owners put in and most wernt fused, some were hot and just hanging, house wire nuts on vehicle wiring….it’s crazy what people can do

Good call.
