Has anyone on the forum bought whole doors for like a 1974 C10 and cut them to fit a full vert Blazer...

If so, do you have any pictures...what kind of saw...etc...

Modify your doors by cutting off the window frames. This can be tricky, so I used doors off a 1975 as a pattern to make templates from cardboard to get the correct angles. Take your time here as there several different compound angles on the upper part of the window frame that need to be cut. Cut long, and grind back to fit.

There are brackets in the 73 through 75 doors that need to be salvaged and welded in to your new doors to hold the window track in place and add strength at the top of the door where you cut. The small fiberglass cap also screws down to one of these brackets. If you don’t have them you can easily make something to weld in.

(The smaller brackets bolt in and are welded to the window track, which you had to cut shorter. The larger ones are welded in to strengthen the door and provide a base for the small black fiberglass cover (next picture) to screw down to.)

No pics but I have done it a couple times. Just used a grinder to cut the doors with and then built the plates that you weld on. Then welded them on drilled the holes for the pieces that cap the plates and there you go.

The second time I actually left the top of the door just a touch longer than the original so it would seal better

OK, I'll ask...

Chief, what's up with your doors? I thought your truck was pretty clean to start with. It may be easier to clean up or repair your original doors. Just thinking out loud...

I thought is was clean too...it is certainly straight but
I see a bubble field on the drivers side lower...so the rust is active...somebody did a nice job at one time, but they didn't get all the rust...
I still don't have a welder so I am thinking out loud also about options for fixing the doors.

I may end up stripping the doors and whole bed down to bare metal to make sure there isn't any more rust...the front fenders and hood are aftermarket already...the only GM metal is the doors, floor, bed and tailgate.

Depending on how it is under the paint, I still think it would be better in the long run to repair the doors you have.

Well, look at the bright side. Stripping it down would get you one step closer to having it painted the color you really wanted.

It's really the only way to know for sure isn't it...?

And you know...you wanna be sure..I wanna be sure.....we all wanna be sure...because the fact is, the bite radius doesn't match the bites on the victim....so let's go cut that shark open....

Thanks NORCAL for posting those pics of the modified door...I will take my doors off and sandblast them and then see what course of action I need to take.

Thanks 496...I will take your advice and I will take the surgeons approach...the less invasive the better...but I am held up right now due to not having a welder nor a big enough air compressor.

I think I will need to replace the entire door bottom, but not sure yet...

By the way...how do you know if you need to replace the door hinges and assemblies??? I might as well be thinking about that as well.

please gimme a shout before blasting the doors..

I got other "fish" to fry right now as you know...I got to finish the quarterpanel first...but, with that said, fess up...what do I need to do with my doors seeing as how I see a patch of bubbled paint 6 inches in diameter?

let's deal with it when ya get the qrters in prime... you should have a much better understanding of the process... how many paint jobs/layers have you been finding, am I going to spot prime or strip this, etc, etc...

10/4, I hope to get a lot done to the quarter this weekend
