1st Owner- originally purchased in California don't know how old he was but he owned it till he died.
2nd Owner- was a guy who lived down the street from the 1st owner. After he died the 2nd owner bought the truck in stock condition from the 1st owner’s estate and customized it. (Lifted, Painted, New Engine see details further in this description) 2nd Owner used it as a secondary recreational vehicle riding on the beaches in California. It was never used as a mud truck or raced in any way. The 2nd owner and his wife moved to Mississippi to take a job. Shortly after moving here they bought a house, horses, wife got pregnant and he put the Blazer up for sale.
3rd Owner- I purchased the Blazer in 2004. It has been kept indoors in my shop and has only been used as a fair weather convertible. This truck has never been a mud bogger.
Body
The second owner had an 87 front cap put on the vehicle to give it a more modern look. He said the vehicle had never been wrecked and from my 6 years of use and assessment of a friend of mine that does body work, he was telling the truth. The tire rack was also Chromed which is a nice touch and really looks good. You will see from the under body pictures I took that this vehicle's body has very little rust for its age. The typical trouble areas like floor boards and door wells are in much better condition than many of the 80's model blazers I've seen. The pictures will tell the story but this body is in very good shape.
Lift
The second owner had a 6 inch lift put on the vehicle. While I don't know the brand it does have silicone bushings and quality steering correction linkage, shocks etc. It's definitely a quality lift. The vehicle drives and steers extremely well.
Tires
The tires are 35in Buckshot Mudders. You can see in the pictures that they have about 70% tread life remaining and the spare is close to 100%. At some point during the second owners tenure, the rim on the spare was scrubbed on a curb and does not hold air. The tire itself is undamaged and in perfect shape. (See Pictures)
Engine / Mileage
The second owner had a Chevy Target Master 350 crate motor installed by the local Chevrolet dealership. I'm not sure exactly when but when he sold the vehicle to me he estimated that the engine had about 35,000 miles on it. The vehicle odometer indicates 79,000 original miles and according to the second owner and everything that I've observed since I've owned the vehicle that appears to be accurate. I do not believe the odometer has ever been flipped or tampered with. (See pictures) The engine cranks like a top and runs strong.
4WD
This truck has apparently had the old school "part time 4wd conversion". What has been described to me is that a gear was taken out of the transfer case which allowed the vehicle to work in 4wd in Low-loc but be in 2wd in Hi-Loc. This approach works but disables the regular Hi and Lo ranges. I'm sure the folks on this site know much more about this than I do. The second owner also removed the front drive shaft because he didn't want to spend the money on the adapters necessary to reconnect it after the 6 inch lift was installed. I'm not a gear head but this is what the 2nd owner told me. Here's what I can personally attest to. I've pulled the plate on the front diff and there is no problem with the gear set. The Lo-loc and Hi ranges work properly. I have the front drive shaft and a spare rear drive shaft that I came across that will be sold with the blazer. If you have further questions about this our would like additional information I will be glad to get whatever you need.
Roll Bar
You will see the roll bar in the pictures. We don't have hard core car clubs around here but several people have mentioned that this is unusual and very nice. I'm not sure how uncommon it truly is but you can see it in the pictures and it does look good.
Top
The hard top on this blazer is in excellent shape. It doesn’t have the typical fiberglass cracks that are often in these hard tops. All the glass in the top is in excellent shape and it's still a pretty nice bright white. With a little elbow grease it can literally look brand new. At the time of this post I don't have pictures because it's been stored in the attic area of my shop and is an absolute !@$#$ to get to but I'm going to take it down soon and will add pictures.
Glass
The door windows and back glass are all in good shape. Both door windows roll up and down. The back window functioned when I purchased it. Because I have stored it in doors and have not had the top on in years I can't say for sure the back window still rolls up but if not, it would likely only be a switch repair because the motors rarely go bad.
Exhaust
The Blazer has aluminized Flow Master dual exhaust. They sound good and are in good condition. You still have 3-5 years of use in my estimation before corrosion would become an issue.
Stereo
I installed Memphis Audio Titanium Fero Fluid cooled 3 way 6in rear speakers and Memphis Audio Titanium Fero Fluid cooled 4 in plate door speakers in the front doors. The head unit is a Pioneer that was top of the line at the time. I'm not saying it's a show system but it has a very nice sound and plenty of power to rock while cursing.
Interior
The drivers seat has a rip in the bottom (see picture) The back and seat structure are strong and undamaged. The riders seat does not have any rips but there is a place where an internal seat wire has come loose and poked a dime size hole in the cover. The center console box is not cracked or busted in any way. This is rare from what I've seen. The back seat doesn’t have a single rip or puncture front or back. Again, from what I've seen this is rare. The carpet is in decent shape as you'll seen form the pictures. The dash has two cracks. As you know this is almost unavoidable but the rest of it actually looks pretty good. All gauges and dash instruments work as they are supposed to. All headlights, tail lights and blinkers work.
Rear Bed Area
The rear bed area is in excellent shape as you will see, there are absolutely no dents or corrosion.
Tail Gage
The tail gate is in excellent shape as the pictures will show. There are now corrosion problems and the hinges work well.
Doors
The doors are in very good shape. They open and shut easily. Like all Blazers the latches are a little loose but the opening, closing and alignment are all very, very, good. The door handles and window handles all work properly.
THE BAD STUFF
Ok so you can tell from the pictures and my descriptions that this Blazer is in good shape but it's not perfect. I'm going to make sure I highlight the bad stuff too so you don't have to worry about any surprises. Since I've owned the vehicle there has been a leak around the torque converter bell housing. I have always been very diligent about keeping transmission fluid in it and figured it was a leaky converter. I've said I'm going to run it till it goes and then replace it. Well it still hasn't gone. I would be comfortable driving this vehicle 3 states away but the torque converter is probably approaching end of life and will eventually fail. As you will see the overall condition of the paint is beautiful, but there are some rock dings I've taken pictures of at the bottom of the door and two bubbles that have appeared over the years. These are small issues and overall the Blazer still turns heads everywhere I go. Earlier I mentioned that the front shaft was not reconnected after the lift. That's it. You will not find any other surprises when buying this vehicle. I have a bunch of more detailed pictures I wasn’t able to post that I will be glad to send seriously interested buyers.
