Since it has "drive flanges" i can just unbolt them and bolt a warn premium hub on correct? (any links to a picture step by step demo?)

He also said the right hub was machined flat so would that make highsteer easier? its what he though.

And finally, it has no calipers on it, but what year did they go from SAE to metric? I know some of the dana 44s shared calipers with the 10 bolts, but didnt know if my 86 k5 stock calipers would work, or if i need something different. (i think the 3/4 ton calipers were bigger/better anyway)

No you can't swap to manual hubs unless the transfer case has been converted to part time.

Yes it should have the flat top knuckle on the pass side needed for crossover steering. You have to have it milled and tapped.

Not positive on the brakes, but I think all D44's are a different size than the 10 bolts.

you can put hubs in place of the drive flanges though. I did this before I converted my 203 and I just left them locked in.

I am not sure on the brake calipers I think they should be the same, as long as you have banjo bolts on your newer calipers they should work just fine but not totally sure on this hopefully someone who knows will chime in

Calipers shouldn't matter. I have 10 bolt calipers on my Dana 44 backing plates. IIRC the only difference is JB5 and JB7, don't hold me to those numbers, but one is bigger than the other, and the 70s used standard while the 80s uses metric.

If you're tossin' the drive flanges I want 'em. My '75 K20 w/D44 uses the same front pads as my '90 Suburban. When I swapped my 6 lug 10b for the 8 lug 10b the calipers were the same. I'm pretty sure that you should be able to bolt your calipers onto the D44 without problems.

As far as the hubs go, if you're puttin' the axle into a truck that has a part time case then yes, just bolt up the correct hubs for that "big hub" D44.

Lol, nobody noticed i asked just about the axle? :D

Sometimes i just gotta throw pikters up. Guy has a d44 8 lugger 4.10 listed for $100, figure if i can find a van width 14 bolt ill be set.

UH, I did. Why van width? The D44 is the same width as the K20 14bff.

they are? is it only the dana 60 that is wider then?

Plus the van widths are rare i believe arent they? Makes it harder to get axle shafts, but i can always hoard and stockpile :D

The front 10 bolt on my 86 seems so much wider than the rear ten lol.

Any 4wd front is gonna be wider than the rear, regardless if it's a 1 ton or not. 1/2 tons are 67-ish wide, 3/4 and 1 ton are 69 wide. Rears are 66 or 67 IIRC. Vans match a 3/4 and 1 ton front. I have a van 14ff in my crew, looking down the side the tires stick out the same.

I dont see any listed on cragislist is van specific, so one of these days im gonna go junyard hunting whenever i get some time, i love diggin through rust :D

Van 14ff is about 3" wider than any SRW gm front axle. Did i mention i have one that is just sitting around under my shelves. :D

Yes, the Warn hubs will bolt right on if you get the correct external mount hubs.

And Ive never had an issue swapping the calipers around at all.

Well scratch this, some guy is supposed to pick it up saturday, i ment to buy it the last time he had it on cl but i lost the add, someone is picking it up saturday. It was only 100 bucks too. oh well i guess :(

Better yet, offer him 120.00 and tell him YOU WILL pick it up right away.

Its nothing i need right now, it was just there for a good price :haha:

I was gonna put ten bolts under my k5, but what people said caught up to me, and well, might as well go to third base if im already planning to get to second.

Need alot of work to the k5 to be able to run them anyway, im thinking 52's up front but people say not for a daily driver, so im still debating, i think about doing alot lol.

Still need to get my camaro parts, psitons=450, cam (if i go roller) 500ish, rockers 300, then other misc doodads and thingamigers, and working at minimum wage with college im only pulling about 200 every two weeks.
