What are the differences besides gear ratios, SRW/DRW, drive flanges/selectable/auto hubs, fat/skinny shafts?

Were the first 2 years different? :dunno:

The early years had neck down inner shafts and 6 pin hub socket for the spindle nuts. Iirc 77-79 models.

Early years had narrower spring perches. They match the GM trucks. Later axles had a wider perch like 36" or so.

I believe the OP is asking about GM version D60's, whereas, Wes is talking about Ford axles.

and first 1 mabye 2 years had cast iron pass side dust cap over all the rest tin cap.

and i have one still on the axle with 37,xxx miles on it.

better chances of finding factroy drive slugs also on the 60 from 20 full time 4x4 cases used a lot.

Yep, once again I got ahead of myself reading the post too fast and replying right away instead of taking time to read each word slowly. :doah:

I just discovered that early 1977 bearing hubs dont have the big outer groove for the driveflange/hub snapring. But the later 77/78s have it :dunno:

mine is a 78 srw D60, its got a grease nipple for the wheel bearings on the hub hidden up buy the wheel studs. Ive yet to see another one like it? Its cast in a bit so its def. factory.

you can see it on the upper left part of the hub.
