I have a 1977 4x4 Jimmy it originally came with a turbo 400. Upon dropping the tranny I have discovered it had been replaced at one point with a turbo 350. I have a turbo 400 out of a 81 two wheel drive 3/4 ton van that was recently rebuilt. Will this tranny work since it's out of a two wheel drive and if it does work will I have to modify anything on the jimmy to get back to a turbo 400. Also have never been able to get truck in too four wheel low I don't what causes this yet but was wondering if the swap to a turbo 350 may have had something to do with it. One more question the truck has emblems on the fenders that say gmc jimmy desert. I have researched but never found a desert jimmy i have found a desert fox but don't believe this is one. Thanks for any info and advice

In short, no it won't work without swapping parts and tearing down the tranny for an output shaft swap.

Also, I'm fairly certain there were never any Blazers/Jimmys with th400, except the 80's models with 6.2 diesel. I personally would stick with a th350 for simplicity, and they are pretty strong too.

Thanks for the info. The service parts info in the glovebox say it has a M40 TURBO HYDRAMATIC. I assumed this meant it was a turbo 400 as stated on some rpo lists
