I have a 1978 gmc jimmy high sierra and I need to figure out the paint code so I can repaint

the factory build sheet in the glove box says its "mahogany"
according to all paint chip sheets I've seen this was never an option...

thanks for any help

There should be a paint code to use when paint is needed. Not sure about the mahogany maybe it had simulated wood wall paper down the side?

I'm not with my truck right now but there was an option number for "solid paint-mahogany" but I google seached it and found nothing, I think it was a special order, it also has the silver side trim option but no white paint down the side

was a mahogany ever offered on any other gm cars/ trucks?

the name doesn't really mean much.... it is the 2 digit paint code that matters.. well, that, and the production plant...

mahogany should be code 82.... iirc, it should be on the glovebox sticker on our rigs... if not, it is definitely on the "body by fisher" trim tag... iirc, it was also offered on vettes...

when getting paint mixed, you might wanna ask the guy if the formula has any variations.. this is where production plant matters.. some colors have many variations, some have 1.....

was always fun when i worked collision painting 25 a week, ya had to know where to find codes on ANY car that came in.. GM, Ford, Saab, whatever, they all have one somewhere.. :haha:
