1978 K20 farm truck "Boring maintenance phase"

1978 K20- Rusty beater farm truck
I understand that. That's pretty much my role here ("grand scale" cracked me up, we're small peanuts). I was just laughing at the thought of farming without taking on debt. Pretty much impossible.

More progress little by little. Dad and I seem to always end up farming well after dark compared to previous years so some worklights are in order.

Bracket made and switch installed

The light output from these two lights is great, definitely will be handy for after hours repairs.

You could say it's a GM family. There's a couple more 88-98's behind me too

The 78 gained a slightly younger but larger brother today!

Overall it looks to be very solid. It does need rockers but the cab supports and corners are in good shape. Not entirely sure the direction I'll go but for now it'll likely get placed inside to keep the elements off of it. Goals are 4x4 convert with one of my ford 60's and some sort of modern power. There is an 06 8.1/Allison 6 speed combo in the salvage yard near here I may have to make mine. Sadly this truck isn't high on the priority list

Another factory tach model? With cruise and A/C?

Man, you find oddballs.

I have never seen a 70's truck with intermittent wipers until now. Confirmed by the option sheet!

This is the third factory tach truck I've owned. My 78 C30 454/465 had one also, but it was converted to a TH400 also.

I'm extremely excited about this truck, so many different possibilities!

Some guys find all the cool stuff. I have so much want for my drivetrain stuffed into a round eye suburban, wiring and all but with the 70s interior. Love em.

Is the 454 still there?

Martin

Sadly no. One of my engine swap options for this is an L29 vortec 454 though, either that or 8.1, 6.0, or some diesel power plant. Unless this Cummins trade I’m working on now pans out

Just let me know when you want this Ferd 205...

I’m sure I’ll get down there this coming year unless it’s in your way right now

I grew up in dads 78 GMC K25, and my grandpa always had 70’s chevys. The truck I remember the most was my grandparents 1976 C30 3+3. I was Willin to settle for an 80’s CC but when this round eye popped up I had to have it.

Hey. Fur rillz. I've never seen one. I need that.

No that parts all mine :p:

More on the hand throttle part, mine is from a 1974 C60. I need to take it out and inspect it, I don’t use it since it seizes and you have to fight with it to get it back to idle. There is a version that runs the pedal directly with a rod, isn’t that what you have @max 02?

Yeah mine has a plastic deal that goes around the throttle rod... i have pics. I could find them.

Mine uses a cable similar to a throttle cable, and I’ve got it hooked onto the throttle pedal bracket and through a hole I drilled in the pedal next to the actual throttle cable. I’ll try to remember to get a couple pictures tomorrow
