1978 K20 farm truck "Boring maintenance phase"

1978 K20- Rusty beater farm truck
If that’s the case I’m curious why I had to have the AA spacer to make my driveshafts work. Oh well they work and I won’t complain.

Wasn't that due to the length of the 205 input shaft?

Apples to apples, later trucks with the standardized transmissions and dimensionally identical NP208/241s are quite interchangeable. I didn't even need to redrill my cross-member bolt holes, it was a perfect match aside from the taller tranny mount. A 1985+ truck wouldn't have had even that snag.

So your problem is that you bought too old of a truck. :pimp:

Also, what are you using for shifting boots? I'm thinking about grabbing a 205-style boot so I don't need to carve up the 208 bezel again.

I actually changed the input shaft from the stock long shaft (spacer required) to the short so I didn’t have to use the spacer. Then when I realized the driveshafts wouldn’t work I pulled the 205, swapped the long input back into it and installed the spacer.

My Shifter boots are both just cheap aftermarket units. The 205 one was in there from whoever stuck the turbo 350/205 in it and the trans one I ordered when I swapped it over from an auto. For being cheap they’ve held up well for me over the last few years.

It feels great! I actually used 4 low this evening dragging a large log we use as a gate out of the way for field access. A little power hop but it drug a log as heavy as itself so I’m pleased
I'd call that a big win.

No real updates other than the truck just works. Since the flatbed C3500HD has a pintle hitch this has been used to tow the head trailer around for harvest. And worklights on the flatbed make it an invaluable work bench.

And this one is for @82355 this is normally the kind of field access we have. Little wooded trails just large enough for the machines to fit through. Between the dirt road and farthest back field I was headed to in this shot is over a mile

A woods mower and a Stihl with alittle work can change that you know....

Living the dream! :saweet:

What have you done to your gauge lights? I can barely see mine, they suck.

I sadly don’t have any pictures left over from my cleanup of the gauges but all I did was fully disassemble the cluster and paint the faded white housing that serves as the reflector with “chrome” spray paint. Then when I reassembled it I installed some cheap amazon sourced LED bulbs. It’s been flawless since last year and one of my favorite mods after going from zero functional dash lights or gauges to having them all work (except oil pressure)

Not really much in the way of updates for this thing. Ran me fine all winter long and is currently serving as DD for my dad until I have time to put new exhaust on his truck.

Did take the time to get the L shaped diesel tank mounted on the bed. The ratchet straps were only temporary for last night until I pick up some turn buckles and build the hold down tube. Had to get it secured down so dad could drive it again today. Pretty boring update, but it's been working good enough all winter and rock solid reliable.

How are the BFG's holding up? Both on the gravel and off?
