Can I put my intake manifold from my 1979 350 engine onto a 1988 350 engine? What has to be done. It will have to be smog legal:mad:, as I got the wrong manifold without the egr for the 1988 motor, it has to have the egr and my 1979 has it.

the difference is the angle of the two inside bolt on both sides for the intake. You can just egg them out with a drill.

The older one is probably a carbureted intake, the newer is probably a TBI intake so no, not compatible, you could modify the manifold, or change heads.

Since you live in California you cannot swap fuel injection for a carb legally. The referee won't let that happen. Also, the type of EGR that is used on the FI engines work differently than the old carbed version so again it won't work.

With regards to smog equipment and doing swaps, you are allowed to upgrade engine size and you're allowed to go from carb to FI but not the other way around. You should contact your local referee station if you don't believe me or if you want more specifics.

I was told that I can put a newer motor in but it has to have the same stuff as the original. I am putting a 1988 motor in my 1979 Blazer which is carb.

You are allowed to put a newer engine in the vehicle but you must use all the newer emissions items and also if the newer engine is FI you must keep the FI. I've been down this road many times in the past.

You could always swap your old heads and intake onto the newer lower end and no one would be the wiser.
