Im SLOWLY restoring a '79 camaro, and have a question about tranny's. When it was running, it had a 383 stroker 4 bolt main mated to a auto trans (th350???). I have both the tranny and motor, but want to drop in a manual when time (and money

) allows. What is a good strong manual tranny to mate with with the block? Are there any good web sites i could check out for camaro stuff? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I always liked the Super T-10 and the M-21 for four speeds. You could always go with a Richmond 5 or 6 speed if ya got some $ to throw at it...
The T-5 5 speed is not a bad tranny although I've heard they have reliabilty issues with the higher hp applications.

There are several versions of the T5, I think the best will hold up to 300 lbs of torque.

Check out thirdgen.org I think 3rd gen has a 2nd gen (70-81) forum.

I would probably only trust a Munchie behind a nice 383. The t5's and Sag's are junk for any real hi-po stuff. There are also numerous aftermarket options as well. No matter what you choose the answer will be spendy. Munchies seem to just keep going up in value as they get harder and harder to find.

The Borg Warners seemed to live behind the 455's in the T/a's...

M21 or M22 "rockcrusher" supposed to be damn strong.

Good call Rene... I forgot all about some the the BW's. They also have a pretty good aftermarket from what I hear so would be a good idea to look into them.

I was considering a T5, but looks like they wont hold up. I dont want to drop in a trans and kill it in a month or two. I'll do some checking into Munchie and BW. Thanks for the suggestions eveyone.
