Well i went to go look at a truck for a D.D. I found a 1980 C10.88,8XX origanal miles.almost no rust.it has a 5.7L Diesel(never Heard of that).the main problem is the auto trans.you have to shift it manualy.
Here is some pics

Forgot the Price the guy said he will take $1250

And the rear end is a 12 bolt, right?

Opions?

yes it is a 12bolt rear...

ive never personally heard of a 5.7diesel. maybe they mispoke?

The trans...POssibly the modulator...do you ahve to up adn down shift or just down shift? i would think long and hard about this...it may have a rebuilt tranny with a manual valve body (elimintes auto shift REquires manual shift)

but judging by how the motor/axle looks everything appears to be "untouched"

I talk to my Mechanic(also my uncle) he siad that the 5.7 diesel is a gas motor converted over to diesel by GM,and they are JUNK.oh well to bad it seemed like a nice deal.

Basicaly Gm used most of the parts found in a gas engine and put them in a diesel motor.because of the higher compression they dont go that long.

these motors were only avilbile for 2 years 79-80(not to sure on that though)

for 1250 bucks i would take it.. good mileage, if u take good care of it, im sure they will last a long time..... if it was me... it will be mine... but not lookin to buy now...:wink1:

RUN, don't walk away.

The 5.7 diesel is the 350 Olds diesel. Evil, evil abomination of a motor, and part of why the 6.2/6.5L get a bad rap to this day.

:o now i remember abt olds diesels...

Aren't the 5.7 diesel blocks good for building Mega HP gas motors or something though? Something about the amount of Nickel or something in the casting. Not that this has anything to do with the original intent of this thread, but I'm just curious. I swear I've heard this from people that are more into drag racing/ expensive engine builds than I am :dunno: . Of course, I could have imagined it too.

I've heard the same, indirectly as well. I think Dorian posted about it, but yeah, apparently they're desitable blocks for race motors ::shrug::

Yah know, its a shame really one of the nicest body's ive seen in Wisconsin.but that Stupid motor. By the way thats the origanal paint

Why not buy the truck and drive it until the engine dies and then replace it with something else? There´s a lot of those diesels over here and they are better than their reputation. Not to say that it´s a good engine but the truck looks in really good shape overall.

i would buy it no matter what.. even if its a pukin engine.. its always replaceable

Well i will tell ya the truth i dont have alot of money.and i dont have the room to swap a engine.

that body here in the rust belt would part out for 1200 or more. then the steel left over 100-200 bucks. hell buy it and run it till it blows. even if you need motor swap later on down the road.

I think if i could get it for a grand i would consider it.but as my friend said a dime size peice of rust is accualy equal to a baseball piece of rust that you cant see.
