Here is what I am hoping.

I was hoping the front axle would or could be a Dana 60 and the rear a 14 bolt FF. If so both could be used on a 1990 Blazer, correct? My In-Laws have the above truck sitting un-used. It also has a 454 sitting in it.

I guess if there isn't a standard axle...Is there a guide to show me how I can tell what axles it may have on it?

Thanks

Front should be a 60 , rear should be a 14 bolt, but, these would be DRW axles so they will not be the direct bolt in that a SRW -single rear wheel front 60 would be. The easy 14 rear to bolt in is a 3/4 ton model, as the spring perches are already the correct width. Basically the front DRW would need the ends swapped to SRW stuff otherwise it will be much wider then your current axles.

We have the parts to convert a DRW D60 to a SRW version.

The rear won't be right either, info here.

Those axles are still worthwhile to deal with, just not as desirable as SRW axles.

Yeah, I read that yesterday. Good info on that thread.

I have a srw 1ton rear axle that I already got the disk kit, perches and mounts for. I am working some old calipers now. I was hoping the dually front end was a a D60 so I could just swap it right in to the blazer. D60s are expensive around here.

I will check on the 60 conversion. See if is worth the expense vs buying a used srw 60.

Is there any way possible to use Ford ttb stuff with a little creativity??

ford ttb dana 50 and dana 60 = longer outer stub shaft. and also dana 60 king pin stuff has weaker knuckles and 5 stud spindle mount over stronger gm/dodge knuckles and 6 stud spindle mount. plus there brake parts are more money on the 2 pistion calipers.

so basicly to use ford outers = full knuckle out swap.

most people go gm outer swap on the ford axles if thay are swapin. = more strength and more choices.

Just put some H1 beadlocks on it.

You know Greenie, that input got me thinking. I have both drw axles and full driveline. I will have to check and see what the trans and transfer is in the dually and see if it can fit in the K5...minus the driveshafts.

I mean, I would think the dually would have a tougher transmission and transfer case than the the stock K5. (700r4 and 241 I think) I don't mind the look of H1s and all. In fact, I like the beefier look all the way around. Hmmmm. Going to have to do some research now. Good idea.

I have 2 trucks with dually Dana 60/70 and hummer wheels, I like the look. You will have double beadlocks too!

It is a dually. The front is a D60 for sure and the back is a D70HD for sure. I finally got that down. They have 4.10 gears.

Since I want a little taller gear, I ordered 4.88s for front and back, carriers for both, and master install kits for both. I wanted to order the detroit for the back but I need to wait for more funds.

With the 454 and 40" tires I think the above gears and below drive train should work pretty well for a toy. It is not a DD but as I note below, I need to drive to my wheeling spots. 10 miles or 200.

I think for now I am going to stick with my 700r4 and 241 due to the OD. I plan on driving to all my wheeling spots and need decent freeway speed and the lower 241 gear should help on trails. Gas will suck but such is life when you play with these types of toys.

I will just hold on to the TH400 and 205 till later and see if I ever decide to put a doubler on the K5.

Does all that sound reasonable?

Sounds like a good plan. Although, if you're going with anything bigger than a 35" tire I would have gone with more gear. Just my opinion.

I plan on 38 to 40s on the H1 rims. I do not know which tires I will get yet since I just decided to go with the H1s. I have to look up what fits the wheel and all that.

Don't pay too much attention to the charts because almost any tire out there will fit an H1. I've currently got 43's on H1's and have had 42's and 47's on the same wheels. Lot's of folks have used H1's on 44 Boggers as well so pretty much anything fits.

I would not plan to run the 700 behind the 454 for long.

I was looking at a rebuild that provides a better band and thicker clutches that would make the 700 stronger. I would think that should make the 700 last longer under off road use.

I assume you have some personal experience with BBC and 700s? Please tell. I want to make preparation before I put these parts together.

Your going to need every trick in the book to get that 700 to last behind a healthy BB. The torque is what kills em I think. It can be done, but a lot of hard parts need replacement to hold up.

What year TH700 is it. Stay away from pre 87 units I've heard.
I believe the input torque rating was only about 300, and GCWR was like 10500#
