1980 K20 gears.

I have heard of both ratios being available but from my experience they are pretty rare.

I'm not sure but I think my 82 K2500 has 3.23's or 3.42's in it...its doggy and will cruise at 65 at a fast idle...someday I'll pull the cover and see for sure what ratio it is..my K10 '72 Blazer that had 3.08's sounded about the same on the highway...

There is a 3.23 ratio 8 lug axle and matching 10 bolt on Craigslist locally for sale too, that came from a truck like mine..so they did put them in a few 4x4's,mostly diesels or BBC equipped ones probably...not very common though..especially in 4x4's..

They showed them being only available with a 350 in 1980.

No idea if mine was ever changed out,I doubt it though...

My '85 K10 Burb has a 12 bolt 3.73 rear axle in it,and it sure looks original to me too--GM says they stopped using them around 1980 too,but I've seen more than one in later trucks that were never molested from day one,so who knows how reliable GM's "notes" were?..

Buddy had a set with 3:21s, I thought he was always crazy and they were 3:42s. But maybe they were actual 3:21s?

The truck as a hodge podge of parts, so I'm not sure what year they actually were.

Martin, how many times to I gotta remind you to check my Brochures pages?

Chevy sales info says 3.21 and 3.42:1 in a light-duty K20, and the usual 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56:1 in the heavy-duty K20 (CP6, which must be an RPO.)

3.21 and 3.42:1 were available for both light- and heavy-duty C20's though, so they'd seem more common.

I wish the Heritage Center would upload all of the old brochures.
