1982 700R4 really hard shift into 2nd . . .

My trans is shifting really hard into 2nd, but ok into 3 and 4, any ideas?

Oh yeah, I had the trans flushed and new fluid put in, seemed to help a little at first now not so much.

What did the bottom of the pan look like when it was pulled? Did you put in a new filter?

Hard like "Bang!" or just at really high RPM? Could be the TV cable has come out of adjustment. I suppose it's also possible an accumulator spring has broken. It is normal for the 1-2 shift to be firmer than the others.

I've had the governor stick on mine and caused a high rpm and harsh 1-2 shift. I would check that and the TV cable adjustment first.

A too tight cable or sticking tv valve can cause this, accumulator springs in the 1982 were pretty soft.
