My girlfriend just came by before work and told me her muffler was dragging behind her firebird... the pipe must have rotted through about 2 3/4 before the muffler (right at the u-bolt) because it was hanging on by the the hanger. i cut the rubber hanger and gave her the muffler/tailpipe. money is short right now so i was wondering if it would be possible to ut off the u-bolt and put a pipe of larger diameter over like a collar to connect it back... the only thing i'd be worried about is if there is enough length on the muffler end (lik i said it's about 2- 2 3/4 with the u-bolt) any ideas/ suggestions? p/m me back if anyone can help

I think that would work fine. We did this fix once using a beer can and some clamps. Wasnt very quality but it worked.
