My grandpa gave me a blazer he held onto(by letting it sit in a lot in south florida) for many years. its a 1982 k5 with a 5.7 bored .60 over it also has a 4speed 700-r4 transmission all while being lowered 4 inches. some minor cosmetic issues and rust issues but you dont need clean paint to go fast. it took me several months to get it up and running on the road legally being i am still in high school and money is of the essence. i am looking to repair my steering and suspension systems but am not sure where to start or how to diagnose the problems i have. the suspension is very old and much of everything is covered in surface rust to begin with. im trying to keep my truck home and not put it into a shop if possible. can anyone help point me in the right direction?

I would start with inspecting bushings and ball joints if it's been sitting for a long period of time. Host some photos and post them.

Just went through this myself. Start from the ground up. Inspect bearings, repack or replace. Replace differential seals in and out, maybe pinion seal. All new ball joints, tie rods. Have alignment checked, and have the shop check the gear box while they're at it. Replace if necessary, maybe new rag joint. New belts and hoses if necessary. Replace body mount bushings. If you do all the work yourself, you'll probably be in it about $500 to this point. Now you have a solid foundation.

Inspection. Get it up on some jackstands and start shaking crap. Have someone wiggle the steering wheel. I bet a lot become apparent when you do that

Wait, I thought they all came like that?

What kind of symptoms is the truck exhibiting? Is it a 2WD?

the truck is 2WD and just driving around everything is shaky sometimes it pulls to the left and other times it pulls to the right, constant readjustment of the steering wheel

Caster is probably out of whack. I had a lowered 2wd and it was all over the road till I fixed it. I mean had an alignment shop fix it.
