Bringing it home

And putting it in the workshop:

First inspection revealed a ton of rust:

And as the windshield frame and the roof was totally gone, I decided to buy one donor with a slightly better roof and windshield frame.

Then I started to put the put the first parts together:

So at the moment, the inner A-Pillars are welded back in, and I start to prepare everything to put the outer roof skin back on.

This is very timely for me. I am also working on the windshield frame and roof of my truck. Looking forward to your progress!

Today I finally finished the rain gutters (don't know if this is the right term in english), so I was able to do the first test fitment of the roof.
It's not too bad (considering the the whole roof and A-Pillars were taken apart), but still needs some hammering here and there.

But before putting everything together, I'll paint the inside of the roof and rust treat it.

I am also considering to just buy the whole dash panel new, because I will start to save work wherever I can, because I'm kinda fed up with welding everything together out of 20 little pieces that I have to rust treat everywhere.
The upper one is the better one from a 91, but still needs some welding (and some modifications because the 83 one (the lower one in this picture) has some different holes)

After a what felt like a billion hours of grinding and welding the windshield frame/cowl is almost ready to implant.

Just an advice if you're thinking about transplanting the windshield frame from one to another. Don't do it.
It's a ridiculous amount of work. If I would have to do it again, I would just buy the whole frame new from LMC or so. It's absolutely not worth it. But I was already to far gone when I realized it.

Well if you want to do it professionally like you, yes.
But some people just cut off the posts, and weld the new frame on.
Someone I know put a square tube in the cavity to align the pieces like dowel.
I really admire how you are doing the work as well as a couple of others on this site dealing with windshield frames and top rust issues.
Back when I was younger I had the patience for doing body work and separating the layers to straighten each piece then piecing it back together.
Now I don't have the patience and have an endless supply of clean trucks here in CA so I only work on mechanical stuff, occasionally changing body parts but no bodywork
