Hi everyone I'm brand new to this forum but it seemed like a great place to get inside knowledge. I've owned a 1989 k5 before and was forced to sell it years ago. Im now in the market for another... the difference is that the one Im looking at is 1983 6.2 diesel. I've never owned a diesel before but have wanted one for years. I've read through jesse james buyers guide for k5s which was awesome btw thanks jesse! Anyhow what can you all tell me to look for in a diesel? Any and all insider things to look for would be awesome considering Ive never owned a diesel thanks guys!

Here's what I'm working with

1983 K-5 BLAZER 6.2 DIESEL BANKS TURBO SYSTEM, TURBO HYDRO 400 TRANSMISSION, 205 TRANSFER CASE, LARGE 43-GALLON FUEL TANK, AIR CONDITIONING, POWER WINDOWS & TAILGATE, POWER DOOR LOCKS, POWER STEERING, CRUISE CONTROL, DEEP TINT ON REAR SLIDERS & TAILGATE GLASS, B&M FLOOR SHIFTER W/STICK TILT-STEERING COLUMN, RUNS EXCELLENT, LESS THAN 17K ON NEW GM CRATE ENGINE, BANKS TURBO SYSTEM INJECTORS & PUMP SET UP BY INJECTOR SERVICE COMPANY, NEW SHOCKS, NEW BRAKES, DANA 60 FRONT, 14 BOLT REAR, SERVICED WHEEL BEARINGS & SEALS FRONT & REAR AXLES, CLEAN INTERIOR, NEEDS PAINT

obliviously that's in the sellers own words and I'm always skeptic... thanks for the help guys!!

Well if you want to know our opinion on the make up of this K5, it's a dream setup, no need to touch anything, unless it needs repair.
As for what to look for, I would advise you to look at the buyer's guide in the sticky post.
How much is the seller asking for this Gem?
Any pics?

Yeah it seems sweet, just didn't really know what to look for in diesel also I'm far from a mechanic and get confused even by what I'm looking at when I'm crawling under a rig :dunno:. He's asking $6500 thanks

Well, he says a lot about what has been done to the truck, if he has all the paperwork to prove it, even though $6500 is a lot of money, I would pay that for what this guy says he has.
If he says no paperwork, then I would take it to a mechanic and have it looked over.
If it were me, I know what to look for and I can catch a lot of things when looking, the only thing I can tell you to do is go to look at it and before anything make sure the truck is still cold and hasn't been started yet and try to start it and first see how easy it will start, and if it smoke a little when it starts, and how long it takes for the smoke to clear.
If it's a few seconds it's Good, if it under a minute it's normal, if it takes more than a minute, something is not setup right.
Next look at the engine pay and see if there are any leaks, and look if there are any traces of old leaks where it's parked or around it.
If the engine looks like it has been cleaned, then it might have leaks that he wanted to hide.
