Does the hose go into the over flow or just on the out side of the odd opening on a 83 Overflow tank

1983 Overflow hose routing question.

The hose goes in that upper connection. Always figured that bottom opening was for overflow
hose goes in upper with spring clamp around the tanks plastic .
i prefer the newer bottles tho for mid 80's on the inner fender my self .

leave it @ 1-2" off the bottom
