i went in and changed all the vacuum hoses cause they were cracked, new pcv valve.. I took two wire connectors of to clean them and put EVERYTHING back the way they were..when I started it up the damn check engine light came on..... I don’t know what happened but it’s driving me crazy.. it surprised the hell out of me that my system actually was in tact enough to throw a check engine light on... so how do the old ones lights work? Do they store codes or does the light go off immediately when the problem is fixed? Please help

Also there was a connector that was zip tied to hold it on I guess. Anyways I think I might have broken it but I don’t know what it is for. I did cut two sections of wire out and replaced them with new wire but that’s about it

It must be the dreaded computer controlled carb that only California trucks were cursed with. Information on these systems is limited and most of what you find are ways to swap to something else. AFAIK, it's like checking any other OBD1 car - something like this: https://www.obd-codes.com/faq/read-gm-2-digit-obd-codes-free.php.

Chances are you lost connection to the TPS or the jet solenoid.

Yes, pics of the carb would probably help. Guessing this is the (horrible) CCC system.

Damn, 3 minutes late, see above. :)

Replace the carb and dizzy with a late 70s set up. Get all the vacuum hoes ran and dummy run all the wires. Smog tech never takes off the air filter and wont see it. You trace the vac hoses using the core support sticker and it's all there. It will pass smog fine. You might have to switch to a gauge cluster from a K20 so there is no CEL.

It's up to you, man. You can fix it or swap. IMO, since this problem cropped up after you messed with stuff, it's probably just related to that and you can fix it quick. If you can find somebody with an OBD1 scanner, it can answer this quick.

Longer term, you should research conversion and smog rules in your area, as nobody reports any performance or MPG gains from CCC, just increased problems.

I can get some photos up in a little bit working 830 to 8 lately... I tried to jump from a to b and nothing happened the light didn’t blink
