So i came home on leave to my inlaws and they wanted me to get Papaws truck running. They told me it ran but the ignition lock cylinder got stuck in the on position so they parked it. I put in a new key cylinder and nothing. I then out in a new ignition switch and battery since it set up for so long, Still nothing. It seems to be a power issue, ie the only thing I can get to work is the headlights. I also put on a new negative battery cable. So what might this no power problem be? All help is appreciated. Is there a master fuse? the ignition stayed on for about 6 to 8 months.

Thanks Mike

Well I checked the fuses under the dash are there anymore somewhere else? Any other ideas? Again power at the battery, headlights come on and no power to anything else. I have a new battery, negative terminal. No bad fuses under the dash. What next?

When you turn the key to the on position, do any of the lights come on in the dash?

Fusible link located on the firewall above the distributor.

Check to make sure that you have continuous power to that lug with two or three wires under it. Located just above the dist. in the engine bay.

If the battery cables were replaced or if when the key was stuck in the on position then someone may have cut the small hot wire attatched to the battery as well.

That lug with the two or three wires on it may be fed from the starter so look at all the wiring under the hood to make sure someone or something (mice) didn't cut some wires.

Well it was the red wire going from the firewall to the starter, burnt in half from having power going through it for so long thanks for all the help.

Um, I guess you might be right about the power running through it for a long time but............ No that would not have anything to do with a failure.

It could be that it was touching the exhaust at one time and then it corroded through over time.

Either way, you learned something about trucks and now you will know how to troubleshoot electrical problems in the future. Good job.
