Guys I am at my wits end. I installed all new body mounts (poly energy suspension). The instructions state that the frame bracket in the number 5 position cannot be reused. The new bushing is thicker than the factory so it will not fit in the old bracket. So the question is….how do I remove the bracket on the inside of the frame so that the new bushing will fit? The only way I can see is to drop the gas tank and I really don’t want to do that. I need help!!! Thanks !!!

Got a pic of what to remove? I put Energy Suspension bushings on my '91 and I don't remember any body mount mods.

I figured out how to remove the bracket. There is a cross brace that goes between the rear frame and the bumper. the two bolts that hold the brace to the frame also hold the “L” shaped bracket inside the frame that the old factory mounts rested on top of. So, now I have been able to remove the bolts and the bracket has fallen off the inside of the frame. Now the question becomes, how do I get this bracket out? It is currently sandwiched between the frame and the gas tank. If I pull off the rear bumper could I slide it out the back?

Go buy a cheap extendable stick magnet and try to fish them out towards the axle.

Tried that. There is a cross piece on the forward side of the gas tank that blocks my access to the inside of the frame.

I put enery suspension bushings on my 85 and never had to modify any bracket.

Not sure why yours did not have a bracket inside the frame. The bracket bolts to the inside of the frame as shown in the picture below. Here are the instructions that came with my bushings. I don’t see any way to access the space between the gas tank and the frame except by removing the tank. Probably would be good to do any way. There is some rust under there that needs to be cleaned up.

My ‘84 had them. I don’t remember if had to drop the tank or not. It’s been in and out so many times, I don’t remember.

My tank was out at the time I did mine. Removing the bracket show would not help to remove the nut on the carriage bolt

I have my tank out right now and actually installing them, having a hard time. But i got three mounted tonight. Let me go take some pictures for you

Ord instructions on there body lift kit say to cut that bracket if reusing factory bumper, so youll only need to keep the part with the nuts so you can bolt bumper back to it, it will not go through with the new energy susp bushings,

It is a close fit trying to get that bracket out by the rear bumper, would be only way to do it, and would be tough with tank installed, i dropped my tank because the rubber from send unit and tank fill and vents and return were just about rotted. So it might be good idea to drop your tank anyway and also paint underside because the dirt sticks inbetween tank and skid plate and bottom of my tank had some rust even for a truck that has almost none.

I put all new hoses and fuel send unit while i was at it. FYI if you order from LMC it does actually come with new lock ring and oring, i didnt know that and bought them separate and didnt need them. I was also surprised how bad my send unit was and crap in my tank clankin around like rocks and flakes of rust. Idk how they got in there but glad their out.
