Alright,

I finally did it! I just turned 30 and decided that I was going to go for it and Sold my 2004 F-150 Lariat Supercrew, for $8500 and found the type of Blazer I have been wanting since Highschool. Found the truck below on Craigslist guy was asking $10,000. This was the best looking one in Texas I could find IMHO in the two months I was looking. The saturday after Thanksgiving, I drove up to Mabank Tx about 3.5 hrs from Houston, to test drive it. The Guy was pretty up front about the issues it had, including a transmission leak. I test drove it for about 30 minutes and did not detect any issues. I talked him down to 6500 Dollars. Well about halfway home to Houston, truck broke down on me, I believe it had to do with an Electrical Short, leading to the Holley Blue fuel pump. :doah: I have roadside assistance through my insurance so I got it towed to my in laws automotive shop in Houston. They are going to see about fixing the transmission leak, and Fuel pump electrical issues. I would do some of this work myself, mainly due to the fuel pump, but decided since it was going anyway to let them handle it.
Plus I need it done quickly as I am down to one vehicle, My 2009 Honda Accord, I bought for the wife.

Anyway some specifics about it.
Unfortunately equipped with a 1992 305 from a Camaro. I plan to upgrade in the future to a new 350 with EFI.
700R4 Transmission and Engine was supposed to rebuilt 4 years ago, and the the engine transmission are supposed to have 8500 miles on it only in the 4 years he had owned it. This is reflected on the working odometer.
6" Pro Comp Suspension lift- Plan to keep
37" Nitto Mud Grappler Tires
Electric Fan,
Longtube Headers,
Edelbrock intake
Magnaflow Muffler Duals out back
A/C Working but seems a bit underpowered
All Engine accessories replaced
Steering Stabilizer
Newer CD Player
New Window Regulators and window seals in front
Has updated(slightly newer Interior) Im still trying to figure which vehicle its out of exactly..lol

My Goals are to actually Modernize the vehicle but keep its Rugged looks that I have always liked.
This will include in the Future:
New (non-rebuild Engine and Transmission 350)
Upgrading the Guages (Speedometer/Odometer and Instrument guages)
New Dash Possibly with some Custom Modifications
Most likely front captains chairs will be recovered with Leather.
Rear Bench Seat will be Replaced with 3rd row leather seat from Suburban/Tahoe/Escalade and Modifications made.
Dynamat and install good insulation wear needed and add carpet to Front and Passenger areas. I will keep the Rear with just Rhino Liner, as I like the look back there.
As this will be a daily driver, I will be selling the 37" Mud Grapplers and Getting some 35" Trail type tires, also to reduce the road noise.

Other misc. Touches of Leather and trim to increase interior luxury.
Other Items as I go. I plan to replace older parts as the budget allows.

Did you say you were going to put a TH350 in it? I couldn't quite tell what you were saying there.

Martin

I would keep the 700 in it and upgrade the motor and Trans to a 6.0 or 5.3 ls motor.

Actually there's lots that I would do its a nice start it looks like.

What are your overall plans ? Gonna wheel it?

What all can you do buy yourself? So many things on a stockish blazer I would change but it would be a bad ride when I was done

Yep, sorry that got kinda garbled together there.

I plan getting a a New Crate Motor 350 CI and a good compatible New Transmission. I do plan to drive on the existing ones for a bit and get some use on it. Perhaps till I find a good deal or someone who wants the existing engine.

Definitely not planning to Wheel it, I prefer not to spend the money on breaking parts. The furthest offroad I may take it will be the Texas beaches for some fishin.
I am planning to Daily Drive this truck for about 3 years until 2018. 2018 I plan on purchasing a new F-150 Lariat. This truck will become my Third Vehicle at that point and my ever on going hobby truck.

Sounds good
I'd say, for now, drive it. Don't spend any money on anything other than broken or worn parts. Save the money for the engine and related things first. Looks good

If you want to modernize it you are wasting your time replacing the 350. Since its on the horizon do some serious research on a 5.3/6.0 swap. You will be WAY happier in the end and it will probably be cheaper.

Alright so I got information from the shop that it was not a fuel pump issue that made the Blazer Stall, it was the Transmission pump leaking causing it to shut down on the road. Kind of Funny and glad that there is only one problem. :)
It will have to be rebuilt though, got quoted $1350 for a rebuild and installation. Comes with a 1 year warranty. Told them to go ahead, im supposed to pick up Thursday. Looking forward to it.

Nice! I would leave those 37's they look good, and mostly like wont last to long. then switch to 35's when they wear out.
The interior looks to be out of a early 90's gmt 400

Dang had my 700R4 done for $690 with cooler and alot of parts upgraded plus converter. Might help I pulled it and transmission guy I use to work with him.

With the tranny going out on him it's a probability still running stock 3:08's. interior looks like mid 90 Blazer

I might keep them if I cant get a high enough offer to pay for the new set of 35's. I have them listed on Craigslist right now in Houston for $946.

The seats definitely look like that, not sure where the center console came from.

I started some work on the Interior.

What is that piece for?

You'll have to excuse my lack of interior knowledge as I don't have much interior in my blazer :D

What rear gears did the PO swap in? Did he change the axle gears or swap the whole axle?

Like others have said, don't bother with a replacement crate 350. Get a 5.3 or 6.0 LS engine. If you can do most of the work yourself, then the swap is pretty close cost-wise.

Are you planning on adding a carpet? You mentioned Dynamat. FYI Amazon and Ebay have the best deals on Dynamat. I put some under the carpet in my truck and its made quite a difference.
