1985 Chevy K5 Hotrod

1985 Chevy K5 Hotrod
We found this one a few months ago. The ad was vague, but sounded good and we were already delivering a vehicle to a buyer so I had the trailer hooked up already and arranged to look at it on the way home. Finding the seller's house was a challenge, and getting turned around in the driveway on a cliff with the trailer was a bigger challenge.

The K5 had sat for 4-5 years with the transfer case removed (was mentioned) and mice got in the interior and trashed it (not mentioned in ad). However, no major rust and good paint was worth what I was able to talk the seller down to. So, it was winched up on the trailer and headed home just as the sun set.

Then I found a cheap parts rig with a good wiring harness, heater/AC system, dash, etc. I knew replacing everything in the interior was going to be needed.

And then I haven't touched it since September... but it will be project #2 after I get a new motor in the shortbed.

May I ask why you put a title of hotrod? What is cooking for this one?

My wife grew up in a hot rod shop, her last daily driver was a C7 Corvette Grandsport, this one needs to be a little hotrod to replace it. Once I'm in the new shop I'll start looking for a donor.

It is also going to get a high end paint job, two tone cyber metallic gray with pearl white.

Good thing I put up the portable garage. It has been keeping this thing dry for the past couple months.

As things go, the brown K5 was sold last year. This year we picked up another 1985 gray/ red K5 replacement that is more complete. The bonus is it comes with a gray interior so the recovered seats are perfect for it. This was a barn find. A friend of mine bought 11 Volvo cars and one Chevy truck from a 96 year old guy getting out of working on cars and sent me the lead on this one.

Dang nice truck.
Congrats!

I arranged to get out there asap and drug it home in the dark without starting anything. The seller was attempting to charge the battery before I arrived but luckily didn't try to start it.

Once home and unloaded, I cleaned it up with the pressure washer. It did clean up well. I also had a chance to inspect the homebrew Propane injection. It is all getting removed and returned to stock for now.

The first thing to go was the Propane cylinder mounted in the back seat. Then I was distracted for a couple weeks with other priorities. This weekend I continued to rip out the PO's modifications. I still need to replace a fuel line between the filter and IP as well as a return line out of the IP before I can attempt to start it.
