1985 Chevy M1009

We picked this up in Portland Friday evening. Overall very decent, original M1009. Odometer shows 20K miles, brake pedals show 20K, the floor mat looks great, seats need covers but don't look worn out, paint is three different shades of OD green that my red/ green colorblind eyes can make out, passenger fender has been replaced, and two minor patches of rust where the floor/ inner rocker panel come together. Wheels on it and the wheels that came loose with it are not original either. Shocks are due to be replaced as well. But other than all that, we got a good deal and the former owner was maintaining it as he went.

Today, I had a set of LT285/75R16 mounted on new wheels, all left over parts from other projects.

I found the passenger caliper has some strange slop I've never seen before and the wheel bearings on that side also a bit loose. So I'll get the bearings repacked and reset this weekend.

It looks like I caught the wheel bearings before they got loose enough to do any damage. I just had to reset and re-torque them.

The caliper issue appears to be a combination of incorrect hardware and worn out o-rings. New hardware and o-rings fixed it.

While I was in there I swapped out the dead front shocks as well. For now, I'm using the shocks removed from the M1028 in the M1009. The lower bushing was too long so it took a little grinding to make them fit.

Yesterday, I wrapped up swapping shocks, lockouts, brake hardware, and wheel bearing adjustments. Went for a quick test drive and was reminded the hood latch needs to be replaced.

This morning I swapped the hood latch out for a spare and loaded up the dogs for a test drive to Monroe to grab cat food. The speedometer is 5 mph high at 30 but accurate at 60 mph.

The dogs approve as well.

I have a line on a 6 lug, 14 SF rear axle and I am trying to go grab it tonight. I have a 3.73 front 10 bolt from the last parts truck and the plan is to rebuild/regear the pair as needed while the M1009 is still on the road and swap them some time next year when I can pry it out of my wife's hands for a few days.

That's good to hear. I never much liked the multiple led style designs. How is the high beam? Noticable difference in pattern?
No telling how old the headlights were that came with it. My wife couldn't see the road on the way to work the first morning but loves this set of headlights. I took a drive to look at a truck in the dark last night and it rivals modern factory headlights if not slightly better.

I will add them to my list!
