I totally thought you were going to do an endo off of that ledge. Your back tire was at least 4' in the air! Knowing I was up next made it even worse. When I did it @Bent77 told me he could have walked under my back tire! I thought for sure I was going over and like you I hit the gas, a move that might have saved us both from a really bad day. Not sure why we both struggled on that section........ Let's blame Mark!:grin:
It was great wheeling with you and your dad and I am looking forward to more adventures.

You guys with only a few Moab days under your belts looked much smoother Saturday. Moab learning curve and all.

Looks like y’all had fun though. Wish I had the opportunity to chat more with everyone

At FSI in April one of the first things they told me was if you feel it going over, do not hit the brakes or get off them and roll it through the obstacle. So far I have had to use that advice more times than my mother would probably like to hear...

My first trip to Moab, I almost rolled it twice and broke the rear drive shaft

Man I'm having a hard time picturing the spot where you both endo'd on Hell's. I must have been on a different line because nobody saw mine do that.

Was coming out, they both ended up more to the passenger side than they wanted. Mostly cuz the nose moved over too much, and the rear followed

What I have been theorizing is that since my stub shaft was broken I was basically in two wheel drive at the time I was trying to move my front end over. I thought something was weird when I would let off the brakes and the back tires would roll but the front tires just slid. I didn't think too much of it but couple this with the fact that I have a detroit in the rear I can see why my front end kept going right(straight) even though I was turned left.

Moreover, the minor obstacle just before this and right before I saw Bent smack his diff I was having trouble climbing a wall that I thought I would normally have been able to do no problem. Except when I tried to climb it I was hopping all over and it just wouldn't do it. Well even with the front locker engaged I probably still needed that 4th tire to climb it and I didn't have it.

So as far as I can tell the stub shaft was broken much further back on the trail and in my opinion contributed to some problems later.
 
Haven't been able to pull the tranny yet to see how bad it is as I am catching back up on school after missing those few days for BB(worth it). I did however see some stuff that needed fixing and found a few hours to do some wrench therapy.

First being that I happened to be glancing under the rear end when I got back and noticed that my filler hose was cracking quite a lot and having that fail was not something I wanted to have happen. I couldn't get it to crack like it was on the vehicle but there were several spots it was about to go through the inner liner. I am disappointed as this hose is only about 2 years old. To try something different and maybe would be better I ordered Dayco PN 80304 to replace it. It is 3 ft long so you have to cut it (14.5" was what I measured off my old hose) and is way better quality it feels like than the LMC marine fuel filler hose that was on there.

It does however have a wire in it so you have to cut it with a hack saw or cut off wheel. It also is a very stiff hose so it fought going on pretty bad and we ended up pulling the fuel filler itself to first put it on the tank and then the filler. I would still recommend this hose to someone who needs to replace this over buying the LMC stuff.

Butch was running pretty rough by the time we came back in the yard so I also got some better spark plugs to see if maybe that will help me to not be replacing them every 3-4 months. Which I do not understand anyway because with EFI and a brand new ignition system I shouldn't be having issues. This time around I went with some double platinum Autolite PN APP26 to see if a better spark plug would help.

This leads me to ask. Those with slightly modified (towing cam, bump in compression) 350s, what spark plugs are you guys using? App26 is the replacement number for the light duty 1979 K30 350 application that this engine is from.

With stock iron heads, I stick with acdelco R44 or 45. If your going through plugs, it’s gotta be an issue with weak ignition or over/under fueling. You fouling them or burning them up? Or fuel deposits?
 
I've had really good luck NGK V Groove plugs, had them in for about 5 years. before that I had autolites and I'd wear out a set about every year.

That's what is stumping me about the deal because I have the Holley sniper and obviously it should be adjusting to the proper AFR. Which it seems to be doing correctly and not only that but every time I install new plugs it cleans up instantly and runs a lot better. I don't have pictures of the plugs I took out but they did not look good at all. Some of them were really wet and black while others had major carbon deposits on them.

I also had R45ts plugs in here before but those were what I switched out with I can not remember what on the trip down to Moab in April. What else could I be checking? I have wanted to play with the tune on the Holley for some time but I just haven't sat down to mess with it. Maybe it is something I should look more into.

For sure. Unless the engine is burning oil, with a decent afr, plugs should be tan.

Well I probably should have mentioned this earlier but my engine does burn a decent amount of oil. Probably a 1/2 quart per thousand miles. I suppose that might screw up some spark plugs won't it...
