1986 K5 The over-achieving grocery getter

1986 K5 Chevy Blazer
Man, that looks fantastic. The close up pics of all the work are awesome obviously, but seeing it a little zoomed out with the whole truck... Great job! :waytogo:

Thank you! I had to stop and stare at it for a bit after setting it down. Helped with some motivation to get it back on the road soon.

First time on its own weight outside the shop for over a year i think. Gas tank and skid in place. Driveshafts modified and installed. Finishing up transmission cooler lines and then transmission can be filled. Engine, Magnum, and 205 filled with oil.

Currently working on mounting PSC reservoir, relocating battery box for air intake, and finding a new home for a smaller coolant reservoir. Only another 50 things or so to go. Hopefully firing it up soon!

2 full days of progress this weekend. Tranny filter relocated, and new lines ran. Fuel filter and regulator hard mounted. All fuel lines ran down the top/outside of frame rail and secured.

Removed passenger battery tray and coolant bottle for mock up of the UMP filter. Picture is it just sitting there but final location will be a little different. Looking like I can get away with 2-90° elbows and a 24" straight section of tubing.

Throttle and cruise cables hooked up for good. Had to move the servo box closer so I made a quick bracket to hang it off the brake booster with the master.

What brand are you guys using for hood pins? And any mounting tips? My hood flutters pretty bad at highway speeds. Haven't had it pop yet but would prefer to make sure it doesn't.

Currently using Moroso steel hood pins, anything but steel will absolutely sheer after some offroad use then your hood is being held down with a ratchet strap like a scrub.

Awesome. Was looking at those and figuring the urethane would maybe be better.

Had a question for you about the hood vents... I was looking at the run cool hood louvers. What size did you go with? Medium or large? And have you ever had issues with water coming in while driving and landing on the engine? Or is it not a concern?

I wanna say I got the extra-large ones. I can measure when I get home. I’ve never had an issue with water personally. I have magnetic vinyl covers over them when it’s parked.

Hmm. In the XL product pics the GMT400 makes them look huge but in the description on a customer's square they look much smaller. Be curious to see what you measure on yours!

I much prefer the rounded look than the pointed edges. Which is the only available design for the XL.

I bought them from mrk5 on here. I saw he had some on his rig and he made me some.
I can tell you not to drive with them on because they will blow off lol. They are great for a offroad truck but if you have nice paint you wanne be careful. Dirt and sand will collect around them and could scratch your paint putting them on and off. My truck is bedliner spraypaint so I’m not worried about that at all.
