1987 Chevrolet Suburban 4X4 new windshield and new gasket won't fit correctly

Since you mentioned that you couldn't get the last corner in, I figured I would suggest something.

When installing these, I have always had to start at the bottom obviously. Then work up each side a couple of inches at at a time switching sides. Then go around the upper corners in 1/2" increments switching sides each time. Then run to the middle to finish.

Greetings ktmoutfront and thanks for the input. I tried each side after the bottom, very very slowly bouncing back from side to side but the rubber is so thick, even though I have it nice and slick, the top rubber will NOT go over the glass. The glass is so tight and too high for the rubber lip to even think about going over the glass. Just for kicks today, I tried the top first, well I have nothing to lose at this point, and then the bottom of the glass is hanging over the rubber PAST the lower lip for the chrome strip, it just ain't gonna' work. I've even tried a paint paddle in the grove and a rubber mallet to drive the gasket tight on the pinchweld so I KNOW the gasket is fully seated on the body. My neighbor was helping cause I know this is a 2 man job for sure. Too bad glass won't bend.....LOL!! That LMC gasket is really thick and you can really tell the difference by holding the LMC gasket in one hand and the Precision gasket in the other. They are different weights and thicknesses for sure. You can pull the rubber back REAL easy on the Precision gasket but it's difficult to do on the LMC gasket. I know one thing, I WILL get that glass in soon, hopefully the OEM gasket will be the "cure all" I am looking for. If NOT, well, I guess I will keep looking for the perfect formula. Thanks again and have a SUPER week!!!

Well good morning to all!! I finally installed the windshield and chrome reveal strip installation on the 1987 Chevrolet Suburban 4X4 I am restoring. The rubber gasket had to be placed on the body and I ended up using the Precision brand gasket and it was more pliable than the LMC gasket. BUT, after the bottom and lower right and left sides where the rubber lip was rolled over the glass, the upper right hand side WOULD not even touch the glass. As I looked across the top of the glass, the center top portion of the glass was pressing hard on the rubber gasket. I COULD NOT pull the rubber from the outside of the top center. I had to go inside the truck and carefully push the gasket up and on top of the glass, here is the catch.....the rubber only caught about 1/3 of the glass thickness and kept popping the glass back out. I had to have someone push lightly on the top center of the glass and I pushed the rubber out towards the glass. It FINALLY started to go in but that upper right hand side was the problem area. Since I did NOT see any signs of body damage/repair at all in the windshield area during the strip down process, this was a factory built windshield opening that was.....well.....a little off. It's done but I hope I sure don't have to install another one any time soon. Thanks to all for the expert advice as I am ALWAYS open for suggestions. Now I am off looking for a Hickey rear spare tire carrier and an ARB SS81HF snorkel but....they both have been discontinued......my search continues...……………...
