i have a 1987 chevy v10/k10 and there is currently no turn signal switch in the column and just got a new one, the new one has wires from it going to a plug and i would like to know where this plug goes in in the column? fire wall? also do i need a steering wheel puller especially made for my truck? i need help soon cause i start driving soon and need this truck on the road ....thanks

It plugs in at the base of the column. You just need your basic pulley/steering wheel puller from the parts store.

steering wheel puller

lock plate compressor

both avalible at autozone on there loan a tool program.

basic hand tools and 1-2 hr's for a first timer doing this job not to bad to do.

you do know the lever pops out of the inner guts tho. is it the lever broken or inner guts?

and if no cruise control you dont need the wires from just the lever that pops in the inner gut.

take a pic and post it up of the turn signal area.

yea i knew the lever pops right out it is not the lever its the internal guts(turn signal switch) it does have cruise control and their is currently no turn signal switch in the column. the steering wheel is currently loose and floppy cause either the switch isnt in there or the little bearing that goes in the shaft is bad?

well i took it all apart and the previous owner had just cut the turn signal switch out of there as in he just cut the wires in the column that connect to the switch i dont see how the lever connects to the turn signal switch? if i dont figure this out im looking at taking it to a shop which i dont wanna do!! some one help me please!in the pic you can see all the wire connectors wich are on the wires that are supposed to go to the switch but were cut please help i dont see how the switch hooks up to the lever or anything

you need to hit a junk yard for a parts colume to scavange parts off of.

and the 88-94 trucks will not work for whole unit swap but the upper parts you need will swap to your older one.

and tilt is diffrent than non tilt.

yep thay do but still missing more unless you took off some.

like i said for you best to grab doner unit from junk yard truck and pull parts you need and see the order there in.

if you were closer and can drive it i would say bring it over and i would help you fix it.

ya im going to call the boneyard in dansville tomorrow and fugels in lavonia i would drive it too ya but i got no turn signals!!!!!!! hehe

wellthanks for all the help i appreciate it i made a new thread check it out its
"need help with steering column change" im going to change the whole column unless you guys say differ
