So my '85 box is severely rusted out. I came across a good deal on a solid 1993 box. Any pics of how a 88-98 box looks like on the 73-87 trucks?

Is this a worthwhile transplant or is this goofy?

seen them a lot around here in the rust belt = GAY :sign9:

and you need to install them correctly as the mounting bolts are totally different from 87-down .

also there is a 2" tapper from front to rear so the back of the box is narrower than older also .

Could be worse though, I've seen a mid 80's C20 with the bed from an almost brand new 3/4 ton Ford.

Doable? Probably. But the frame widths are different between these years, so the mounting holes are all different. I don't know whether the frame elevations are different, I'd take a tape measure to it before buying the bed.

And it would also look funny.

I had a '73 up style bed on my '71 GMC--it was free and un-rusted,so I decided to use it,even though it did make the purist in me throw up in the back of my mouth a bit..it bolted on with 6 out of the 8 bolts and the wiring harness plugged right in too..so it was fairly painless to install...it did look a bit goofy, but the bed was almost a perfect match color wise,so I lived with it..

I have seen some newer '88 up style stepside beds on older square bodies, they dont look that bad,but the fleetside newer beds only belong on the trucks they came on in my opinion..
There is a 1970's square body around my area with a Ford stepside bed from an 80's vintage Ford that doesn't look that fugly, but having a "Ford" tailgate on a GM is just wrong !..

Alright, I'll patch/skin or whatever it takes to keep the original sheetmetal look for the bed. I don't want a flat deck, but I can make something to keep the original look to it. Thanks guys.
