I found a 1988 Blazer for sale.. It's in decent shape.. minor dings and dents, The drivetrain needs some alignment and all the power/electrical works. One problem.. At 25 to 30 mph when I accelerate, It would cut out then pick back up again. I am thinking it's a clogged fuel injector..
My question: On the 1988 Blazer w/ the 5.7 V8, What type of fuel injection is used? TBI? or what?
The guy "salesman" or lack there of, told me that the injectors are installed only on one side of the engine.. For some reason "whomever" owned the truck "removed" the injectors on the drivers side !!!!?????
What the hell is this guy talking about? Anyone ???
What could be the problem?
Any help before I make the purchase is greatly appreciated.
It's selling for 4,500 but I got him down to $4,000.
Thanks for any input.

Um your blazer has TBI, it has two injectors in the thing that looks like a carburator. They spray an umbrella looking mist into the little bowl looking thing below them. I have never heard of someone disconnecting them and i am pretty sure that your engine would not run worth a crap, but i could be wrong. - Doug

The 88 blazers came with throttle body injection (TBI) it looks like a carb but hase two fuel injectors within the assembly. It should also have a round black air cleaner housing attatched to the TBI that contains the air filter element. If your engine is a 5.7 liter (or 350cid) it is rated at 210 horse power with decent torque for a stock set up. If either fuel enjector is obstructed which affects the spray pattern CFMS, then your truck will stumble. Also bad gas will make your truck stumble along with a clogged fuel filter. Before you buy this truck be sure to have the seller fix this problem and/or have a qualified mechanic check it out. If the seller is not willing to fix this problem at his/hers cost, then do not buy the truck. It's likely that there is other things wrong with the truck. Just because the truck looks good doesn't mean its a peach. 4x4s are very expensive to fix and that's something you don't need after spending $4000.00 Hope this helps you......Det45

If there is only one fuel injector it wouldnt run. Theres suppose to be two the work correctly. If one was unplugged it would cut off the fuel to 4 cylinders and the engine would stall. $4000. sounds like alot to me. I got my 88 Jimmy for $2200. its in excellent shape.

You are right mudreble however I was talking about obstruction of the spray pattern, not complete blockage. I'm sorry for not being clearer.....Det45

I know what you meant. It has to be that perfect conical mist for the engine to run right.

I not a mechanic BUT, I installed a 4.3 with TBI in a 90 S-10, when I was all done and ready to start it the motor would go then stop then go. Buck around like your describing. After a while a friend of mine comes over and shakes the wire harness to the computer, the damn wires were loose giving the TBI intermittent power. So my 2 cents are check and make sure all the connectins are tight. And heres two more cents I would double check every word that "Salesman " said to you. GOOD LUCK......JS

I guess I got in a hurry on my previous post. OOPS. If the front end has dual shocks, it might have a limited in the rear. Look inside the dash compartment for G80. This is the code for limited slip. GT4 is the code for 3.73 gears.I don't know if this really matters to you, but just passing along the info.
