1988 K30 Crew Cab Jimmy Hauler

1988 K30 Crew Cab
Well I broke down and bought another truck to build.

Picked up this 1988 K30 Crew Cab.
I plan on using it to haul my Jimmy around
:haha:

No really I’m going to haul my 86 Jimmy with it.
You can check that build out as well here https://ck5.com/forums/threads/one-big-jimmy-everything-in-tx-is-bigger.313967/

But I’m doing this one a little different by making it more of a daily driver that what the Jimmy has turned out to be.
I wanted something that would haul my crew and the Jimmy and I finally found it.

Plans are 8.1L Vortec / 4L85E / NP205 with 4” lift on 35’s
The great thing is it has the lift and has the 205 already.
I still plan on doing a frame off but not to the extent of what was done on the Jimmy

Some of you have a really good eye and can see that it has a Dana 44 under the front. Yup it’s true one of the original owners took the Dana 60 from it and used it on another truck. Crazy I know but ohhhh well. I have my eye on another K30 that has the correct D60 & 14BFF for it.
More to come on that one.

Picked up a heart for this beast!

8.1L Vortec work horse model
This is good for me for several reasons. One is that the alt and the ac comp is up where it needs to be to hook it all up and I will not have to notch the frame.

This engine was put in the vehicle it came out of in Jan 2013 and was run on natural gas it’s whole life which is even better. It came out of a 2003 C5500 that had 133k on the odometer but since it was installed in 2013 I think it’s a very low hour engine it just aged out of the fleet.

The bed was full of who the hell knows what when I picked the truck up. The owner could not remember what all was in it. It was under a tree so it filled up with leaves as well.
Normally I would not buy a truck that I could not see what all was up with the bed and especially if it was full of whatever but it’s a crew cab K30 so too he’ll with it.
load it up!
We looked like we had a smoke screen behind us for miles from all the leaves coming out and when we got stopped it was a surprise.

It was like a treasure chest in the bed!
It had a spare figure 8 NP205 and adapter and drive shafts and all kinds of other goodies. Even had a goose neck hitch.
I’m glad the hitch was bolted in factory bed locations.
I will be racking it out and installing a B&W hidden ball hitch instead.

The inside of the bed overall was pretty dang clean. It has surface rust but nothing all the way through. Maybe 3 or 4 small dents in the wells and that really it.
The spray in bed liner will take care of all that when done.

made out like a bandit and found my Dana 60
Just happens to be in a whole truck form but I got the truck for the price of the D60 on the market.
Sooooo I did pretty good I would say.
‘81 K30
No engine in the truck but it was and still has in the bed the SM465 / NP205

Some decent parts here or there it does have quite a bit of rust but I got the title and it has matching axles 6” lift and the wheels I wanted for the Jimmy hauler.

Sub’d!

If you ever travel north and want to get rid of those doors and bed... :D

Man if you where closer I would say come on
I would make you a hell of a deal

I really hate to cannibalise a truck especially K30’s
But it does have rust issues and body damage here and there.
I guess it is more of a sacrificial lamb for the resurrection of a more rare beast the crew cab

Picked up a tailgate yesterday for the k30

It’s a gmc gate but that will not matter when I put the trim on it. You will not see the gmc at all

It literally has 4 small dings that I can feel and see
Came off a 84 c10 in the junk yard
I figure it was still on the truck because the handle was broken and you could not just pull up and lower the gate

2 flat head screw drivers fixed that in 2 min

$70
