I have a 1988 K5, recently I would go out to start my blazer and it would fire right up, drive it into town make a few stops fired right up then randomly, it didnt matter if it was warm or cold it just wouldnt start. initially i was at least getting a click out of the starter and it wouldnt turn over enough to start. tried jumping it with no luck, so i checked the obvious, fuses, grounds off the battery, positive cable has power all the way to the starter. still wouldnt turn over. I let it sit for a day or so and went out to see if i it would start, and it started right up, got into town ran a couple errands, then it did the same thing so i was thinking the starter had a dead spot, so i replaced the starter and that worked for a week or so until it started doing the same thing again. I checked the ends on the visible (+) cables to the starter and replaced the connectors (they do have power to them) but nothing. Now I have no gauges even when i turn the key over to start or acc, so i replaced the ignition switch, still nothing. Not even a click out of the starter.

SO...

I know the battery is good with good ground and good power to the starter. WHAT SHOULD I CHECK!? could it be a neutral safety switch even though i dont have power to guages or anything? my cig lighter works and headlights and dome lights work. Is there any way i can try to get a test light on a certain wire that would tell me if the power is getting to the dash/key/starter...? Or where it might have grounded out? It is about 4 degrees outside so i thought i would check here first before laying on the snow taking off the starter just to get no response from it again. Thanks in advance for any advice!

You might check the fuse links in the wiring in the starting circuit. I had this happen and had to replace the fuse link. Just my .02
