I am restoring my husband's 1989 Chevy Blazer. He knows about the restoration however I am trying to make a lot of the decisions without him so it's a bit of a surprise. It was originally two tone and my husband wants to keep the original paint colors, the builder and I have found the paint codes, Black sapphire metallic and gunmetal metallic but we are having a problem locating the code for the top color. I haven't been able to locate any of the original photos he took back in 1992 when he purchased it and photos of the Blazer taken recently appear like the top was a shade darker. I have read a few manuals online that lead me to believe the tops on that year were usually painted the same color of the body however I'm not sure if that's accurate. The top didn't look like it had any metallic in it but maybe that's just how it has aged....? Maybe the top looked darker in photos because the fiberglass top aged differently than the rest of the body? Does anyone have any insight as to what a typical top was painted from the factory on this vehicle?

I don't have any hard data for you, but I don't remember the fiberglass top having the paint match exactly. My `90 was black with silver on the sides. The fiberglass top was a non- metallic black which I believe was at best semi-gloss when new. I really believe that they were a flat finish with the texture to hide the imperfections of the fiberglass. I just can't remember ever seeing one have any shine when they were new. When I painted mine to get rid of the black, I never saw any sign of metallic when sanding. And if you want it to look original, don't sand it in the normal fashion as it takes the texture off as you sand. I wanted mine to have less texture, so that didn't bother me. I would assume that your builder already knows this, but it may be worth mentioning.
And I honestly don't remember seeing any colors except white or black, but I may be wrong.

My '88 has grey paint and the top is almost a perfect match just dull from sun damage.
