1989 crew cab

Just a place holder here it will be a while before I start. It's all in pieces.
Glad she’s getting saved. Doing a street(ish) build or off-roader?

So I picked up the pieces of the crew cab from Rob and I have them in storage for a while but this is what I got.
Cab complete with nice interior.
Front clip complete grille and lights.
Frame stripped of lines, weld on plates for the steering box.
Bed floor and sides, no tailgate or tubs.
Trans and tcase with cross member.
Front 3" lift springs and rear stock springs
A few powder coated brackets.
Clean title.
It was interesting enough loading it with a forklift.
I had to get creative unloading by myself.
I didn't get the things I have plenty of.
Axles, engines, I will make custom bumpers.

First thought now is to get one of my 6.2 engines running and get it registered as diesel then stick my perkins td in.
I can't register it with the perkins because it is older than the truck.
I will be using a 4500/241 or if I get lucky a 5600.
Still trying to figure out the smallest size tire that will give me at least 70mph on the lowest gears I can put in a 14 bolt.
I have a c&c with 3.73:1 and I would need 38" tires to get my target speed but I don't want a big lifted truck, that will be the suburban.

Most likely will have the flatbed the cab is sitting on for the back on top of the narrow dually rear and a regular front axle.

Cool build...subscribed

Not sure about that.
It will be a truck that does truck stuff.
And it will finally hopefully house my beloved perkins engine.
It's been sitting for 12 years
Any chevy is badass tho..especially a crew cab.
Its suppose to rain this weekend, I'll try and pull that axle out as soon as I can

3.55 gears would work, or maybe go with a 13 speed eaton trans since they have OD ratio's all the way to .62 in some models. With a divorce mounted np205 and the wheel base it's doable.

Just picked up a nv4500 and np241.
Thanks @Capt Ron
I have a 3.73 geared narrow 14bff c&c dually axle I ran the numbers and with skinny 34-35" tires I can do 74mph in overdrive and 55mph in 1:1 if I want to tow heavy.
The engine was pulling fine in my k5 with 3.08 gears and 35" tires so I think I will be fine.
No to decide if I want to put a d44 front or a d60.
I want rcp axle shafts and I think the d44 version is more than adequate for a truck that's just for truck stuff and the occasional camping trip off the beaten path or some overlanding.
I have a pair of axles with 4.56 gears from a cucv and would like to keep it for the suburban for the more challenging crawling.
And I don't want to look for another d60 when I don't feel it is needed.

And if I want a big transmission like this I will just put my cab over my freightliner frame sitting in my backyard with a c12 Caterpillar.
But I think I will just do with it what I have planned to and that is an rv.

So I have an opportunity to get a 98 crew cab with the l29 and 4l80e.
I can put my cab on that frame but is there any advantage to using it, the 98 frame I mean.
I know it's wider so easier to have headers or anything around the engine but sas will be required for the front axle.
Trying to line things up.
