My 1989 K5 blazer shuts off while driving down the road. But only when the blower motor is set in it highest postion. Then it will start right back up. Shut off the blower motor and truck never shuts off.

sorry I couldn't help it.

no fuses blowing??

i started thinking - is the fan switch integrated into the slider for the vacuum switching solenoid thingy?? cant remember if they are totally separated from each other. Vacuum leak??

whats the easiest way to disconnect the fan. can you unplug it so it does not come on as commanded, and then cycle all the switch positions and see if the problem still occurs? maybe the fan motor is shorting -would think a fuse would go...

the computer is right there behind the glove box... maybe vibration/loose connections/ corrosion?

ac compressor cycling on and compressor is locking up? i would think that wouldn't kill the motor though would it? easy enough to pull the lead off the compressor to check.

fuel pump relay is in the firewall right there next to the blower and the blend heater core

So was messing with truck yesterday and truck was idling and would die… and about 10-20 seconds later blower would kick back on and could restart the truck and would repeat the same thing on and on. Could hear a clicking sound and fan kicking back on passengers side fire wall area then truck would be ready to start again. Fuel relay ??? Shorting out? Not grounded? Thanks Scott

Has the truck wiring been messed with?

If it's easily repeatable, there should be a red wire hanging off the fuel pump relay. Run 12v to that, and see if it dies under the same conditions.

The fuel pump relay has a redundant oil pressure switch, so it SHOULD run even if the relay is bad. But always possible the switch is bad too.

Sounds more like something is overloading a circuit and tripping a breaker, but I only know of the breakers on the fuse panel. Can't recall what all they feed power to.

The fuel pump circuit is pretty well isolated from others, my suspicion is that you are losing ECM and/or ignition power when this happens, and thus why it dies.
