The vinyl floor mat install was a huge pita. It’s not perfect but should stand up to the elements a lot better than carpet.
Three layers should be pretty quite going down the road. Sound deadener, closed cell foam insulation then the molded rubber floor.

Definitely needed. The th400 will not downshift from 2nd to first when accelerating in 2nd gear. You basically have to slow down to almost a stop to get back into 1st. However, the 3rd to 2nd kick down works without the switch.
I have not tested this setup yet but it should make a big difference in drivability.
